What makes you a Matt Cassel fan next season?

What does he have to do to convince you he is worth the starting spot? I won't say worth the $ cause I don't think that will ever happen but, that being said....

There are a lot of numbers up there, where did you decide to get 5%? Their overall QB rating? It has to be a much larger gap than that, Cassel has to be near the bottom.

Those numbers posted, actually show him being strong on the short passes, behind the LOS and 1-10 yards.

Cassel would still be holding a clip board if Tom Brady didn't go down. Just sayin.

Well on that same token he'd be someone elses problem if we didn't desire to be Patriots west.

I guess people could discuss why he regressed, or they can just say he sucks and will never get better. I'd rather focus on the "why" this offseason, because I'm 90% certain he's the QB for 2010. I'd like to think he can improve and was set back this year because: his OC and HC were never on the same page, a new offensive system a week before the season, an ever changing WR corps., an early/mid season OL that let him get hit too many times giving him happy feet, league leading WR drops, no running game the first half of the season, the top WR getting a 4 game suspension, poor playcalling on 1st and 2nd down setting up 3rd and long.

And Brady may still be holding a clipboard if Bledsoe didn't get knocked silly, and Warner would be stocking shelves if Green didn't blow out his knee.

How much better is he going to get?

I mean best case scenario here is we have a QB that won't lose us games, that wasn't what any of us wanted.

Look, I don't necessarily disagree with any of these things, and I think Cassel will definitely be better with Weis on board. And that's a great thing.

But then you see a wobble punt to Chambers (or the crossbar) and have to be given pause by the stark reality that this guy just isn't the answer. At least as it pertains to building a championship-level team. The numbers, here and in NE, aren't lying.

I see him as just another stopgap.

Do you think those are the reasons he is so inaccurate with his ball placement?
How many balls did he throw well behind receivers this year? Some were even caught.
Then on the long passes, he would lead them way too much.

But at least everyone knew who he was throwing to, he would stare them down.

He just plain has a long way to go, hopefully they can fix it and he will come through.

His biggest strength right now, is he that he is one tough guy, tough.

Problem being, I don't think our GM thinks he's a stop gap.

Probably not.

I'm hoping beyond hope that we acquire legit competition for Cassel, either through the draft or FA ( at the latter b/c of obvious reasons), but Haley's comments about Croyle damn near kill this hope.

If it were me, I'm drafting Clausen if he magically falls to 5.

Difference in completion percentage past 10 yards.

And FWIW, it was a full 9 percent the year before, when Cassel was in an ideal situation. 49 vs 40.

Really, other than being Chiefs fans what evidence is there that this guy will ever be more than an average QB?

I mean the talent doesn't exude out of him, what signs are there? That he played ok on a team with elite WR's?

I'm not making excuses for the guy. I just know we're going to have Cassel this year, and I'm trying to see what everyone else thinks should be done if we're stuck with the guy for at least one more year.

Though I do think Haley's insistence to keep Croyle tells me if Cassel isn't doing well by about half way through this 2010 season, he'll be benched.
