It's relevant to the conversation if in fact KU was trying to hire Mike Leach.
That bowl win is now a negative in the coaching search. Win the Orange Bowl at a shitty football program and still get shitcanned 2 years later? Sign me up!

But that argument undercuts the other one about how having won an Orange bowl 4-5 years ago is supposed to make the job more attractive. Everyone involved in that is gone. The cupboard is bare now. For all that spurt of success was, it doesn't seem the facilities were upgraded over that time and it created no momentum for the program.

A coach with options will look at what his chances of success are. With the Mangino assassination, the Gill debacle, the facilities, the state of talent on the team... not a great chance there.
What is this facilities BS? KU has brand new facilities.

If so, someone needs to sue the holy hell out of ESPN.

There is no way on God's green earth that ESPN should be able to control the hiring practices of independent, state-funded and/or purely private organizations. They damn sure shouldn't be able to use said associations as virtual blackmail.

The power and influence of ESPN has gotten way out of hand. As has been mentioned before, they have been instrumental in the instability of the XII, every bit as much as UT has been. They are fueling matchups, vote results, etc... They are really ****ing with this sport.

I don't believe that for a second. There's no way ESPN can or would keep him from being hired by schools.

He chose WSU over KU and other schools. Seems like he jumped on the initial offer WSU threw at him, I'd imagine it is a pretty sweet deal.

Not at all. Mark Mangino made way too many enemies in Lawrence.

If he were better liked then boosters would have lined up to fight Perkins in his dismissal. Unfortunately Mangino never took the time to build the alliances you need to survive at the BCS level.

If I'm wrong then why hasn't Mangino been hired by anyone else?

His football intelligence is undeniable. It's his personality that got him run out of Lawrence and is preventing him from getting in anywhere else.

Practically speaking, I agree with you. And Mark May is something of a windbag.

Then again, ESPN has become the debil to me so I just kinda assume the worst with those assbags.

And if you're a guy that's likely going to shun the same kind of 'requirements', you're probably not too keen on walking into that environment.

For most major universities that give a large rat's ass about their football programs, winning will do the trick. I guess at KU, you need to make sure you're buddy/buddy with the right cattle ranchers.

Defending the way KU handled Mangino says more than any MU fan could ever say. You fellas deserved 2 years in the abyss with Gill after that garbage.

If KU really did want him as bad as some media outlets have been touting then I have to think that $$$ and level of competition he would have to face in the BigXII would be the biggest factors in going there.
