if my employee asks "why" i explain, and THEN ask if they have a better course of action.

usually at that point they agree or tell me how they would do it.

sometimes then i have to pull the "you are going to do it my way" at that point, because i know from experience they will take MUCH longer than my way, but usually there are two ways of getting to the same point.
