We need to focus on finding replacemetns at 3B and SS. Those positions are dreadful. Far more destructive than RF has been.

Can Bonifacio play 3B? Can we use our assets to pry Kolten Wong from STL? Holland and Cain for Wong?

Yeah, he could. Health issues + roids make him a big risk, though. And he actually has been just as bad in RF, basically, as Carlos Beltran this year. Except that Cruz has been trending that way for years, whereas this is the first time Beltran's glove has really been a factor.

What will Choo cost? $35 for 3? 2b is a tough one, and pitching is light this year. Need to go big on Choo. What about Juan Uribe, Moose, and Bonifacio? Choo, Uribe, and ..... Ricky Nolasco? His xFIP finally leveled out with his ERA. Jorge de la Rosa (might be a good target), Scott Feldman, there isn't a lot there.

I've thought Wong was overrated for a long time, and he didn't exactly light the world on fire in his MLB debut. I wouldn't move Holland for a guy WHO might be a good leadoff hitter but is more likely just a solid/slightly above-average guy (think Omar Infante, but lefthanded). If they're moving Holland, it has to be for someone who has impact potential. Especially if including possibly the best defensive CF in baseball.

All I'm saying is that if we have a guy in Bonifacio who can step in for Moose if it doesn't click for him, there's a guy (Wong) who is expendable because the Cards have a 2B already. And if you don't focus on 56 AB's and look at the trajectory and trends of his performance in his time coming up, he could readily be a starting 2B for years to come. What would it take to get him? No idea.
I'm saying you trade for him, and then spend on OF (Beltran, Cruz, etc.) I'll add this: I'd like to see Maxwell/Cain/Gordon in the OF for the rest of the season. Maxwell bobbled the ball and is a minus defender, but we really need his bat and he's showing an ability to hit against RH and not just against LH. |

Leaving my (albeit flawed) world, it's clear that the front office places a very high value on defense and has done a marvelous job of acquiring it.
With that in mind, maybe they go big on keeping Santana and bringing in more pitching instead of the big bat, still hoping (incorrectly) that the power from Hosmer, Moose, Butler, and Perez will come in. |

I think a good projection for Wong is: .275/.330/.420 He's likely a .725-.750ish OPS guy who steals 20 bags a year and plays OK defense. That's valuable, but I have a hard time justifying internally what it would take to get him. Don't forget: The Cardinals could just as easily part with David Freese, move Carpenter to 3B, and go with Carpenter/Wong as young, cheap centerpieces.

We should be looking to package the Moose to any team dumb enough to want him. I was wondering last night if Moose + Wil Smith or Duffy would be enough to get Kyle Seager. |

If re-signing Santana means you don't upgrade at any other positions like RF and 2B, do you do it?
I say yes. If we had Maxwell/Lough and Bonefacio starting from the start of the season, we'd be sitting at 88-90+ wins right now. Posted via Mobile Device |
