gotta worry that the Dodgers did pretty well against us this year, although we did rough up Kershaw

He had 2 loses but giving up 4 er and 2 er is hardly roughing up, He had the lowest run support ever this year. Its how he lost 9 games with a 1.83 era for the season.

Why would Miller be on short rest?

The travel day between games 2 and 3 would put him on regular rest for game 5.

My only worry is that it's Miller on the road, where he's not been nearly as good. You could go:

Kelly
Miller
Wainwright
Wacha
Kelly
Miller
Wainwright

The problem is that you only get one start from Wacha that way and he's been on fire. But you get Miller 2 home starts that way and Kelly gets a chance to go be the giant killer he's been for us several times this year against Greinke in game 1.

And really, the only way we beat Kershaw is if we have a dynamite performance from someone. Having seen what Miller can do when he's feeling it, I like my chances with Miller stealing one from Kershaw as much as anyone.

Has there been any real indication that Matheny grew a brain and will actually leave Lynn out of the starting rotation, or is this just wishful thinking from, well, pretty much everybody but Matheny?

The Braves are a bunch of insufferable ass-bags that fancy themselves the rulers of baseball unwritten rules.

Screw Johnson, McCann (twice), Freeman and the rest of the preening assholes on that squad that feel like they get to dictate to the rest of baseball how the game's supposed to be played. Maybe they should tell that to their butcher 2b, cokehead quasi-catcher or the loafing Uptons.

The Braves are the least likeable team in MLB and despite the fact that the Cardinals would've piss-pounded them in the NLCS, I was still rooting for the Dodgers to send their haughty asses home.

Maybe McCann can go yell at the mirror or something.

Make sure to also remind her that the Braves should actually win something before they start barking about playing the game the right way.

It's a pack of unsound, beer league softball players that couldn't spell fundamental let alone practice them and yet they want to preach about 'old school' baseball.

Hey, old school baseball didn't involve 2 regulars batting below .200 both being saved from the all time strikeout record merely by virtue of not getting enough playing time to break it. It doesn't involve putting egregiously lousy defenders at key defensive positions like CF and 2b because they can fall into a HR here and there. Old school baseball doesn't involve grousing about losing games because of a 'pitcher off the street' when said pitcher gave up 2 ER in 6. If their stud rookie could've given them 6 and 2, they'd still be playing.

Here's the other dirty little secret - old school baseball does involve Jose Fernandez putting one in the Braves cleanup hitter's ear when Gattis, a fellow rookie, admires a HR like he did. Would McCann have preferred Fernandez do that? Because McCann's the one that would've worn it had Fernandez gone old school there. Somehow I doubt he'd have felt any better.

Old school baseball also means that when the Brewers best player had already been hit by Maholm 4 times in the past and then Maholm buzzes his tower again...well, the Braves cleanup hitter gets to wear another one. Sorry, Brian. Next time we'll advise Gomez not to stare at his homer. Instead we'll just have Estrada put one into your spine. Will you feel better about that?

Eat dicks and go home, Bravos. Don't worry - your 'fans' weren't really paying attention anyway.

Should I also point out that Tim Hudson only broke his ankle because Freddy Freeman couldn't field a ground ball cleanly? If Freeman catches that ball clean and feeds Hudson a few steps in front of the bag like he should've, Hudson never has to catch and stab for the bag like that and Young never shatters his leg.

Hell, Freeman probably would've just made the force out unassisted; the ball was still on the 1b cut, IIRC. The problem was that Freeman just stood there and let the hop play him instead of charging the ball or backing off to play the hop; he ended up caught in between.

Once again - poor fundamental play. The 1b stands flat-footed on a routine hopper to the bag because he knows he has plenty of time....boom - ace out for the year. Maybe Freddie's just been cranky because he knows he quite possibly ended Tim Hudson's career.

Just sayin'...

So it's set..

Game 1 - Kelly vs Greinke
Game 2 - Wacha vs Kershaw
Game 3 - Waino vs ?

Shelby doesn't pitch, kind of surprising. At least it wasn't Lynn.

Don't go counting those chickens yet - game 4 could easily be Lynn.

I think the Cardinals know something about Shelby that they aren't telling us. Pitching him in game 2 at home makes a lot of sense against an aggressive team like the Dodgers. If he has his fastball command, he can really carve them up.

Then again, since he's primarily a fastball pitcher, maybe they want to use him in LA where he can use that spacious OF to keep fly balls in the yard. Miller's not exactly a sinker pitcher and it's pretty damn hard to get a ball out at Chavez Ravine. On the other hand, it's hard to put one out in Pitt as well and Matheny didn't give him a start.

I really don't understand how they're handling Miller right now.

If they were keeping Lynn in the rotation they would pitch him in Game 1 since it would be his turn. He's not, so it's Kelly. That means that Game 4 is Shelby's spot.
