Matheny outmanaged his counterpart. He brought in his best. The Red Sox left their best bullets unfired.

Quote:
"OBSTRUCTION is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner. If a fielder is about to receive a thrown ball, and if the ball is in flight, directly toward, and near enough to the fielder, so he must occupy his position to receive the ball, he may be considered "in the act of fielding a ball." It is entirely up to the judgment of the umpire, as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball, and has missed, he can no longer be in the "act of fielding" the ball. For example: an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner."

The ump made the correct call. Try convincing Sox fans that was the correct call. I've never seen so many ignorant fans in my life who argue the facts when they're provided to them word for word from the rule book.

It would have been really interesting if Middlebrooks doesn't raise his legs and Craig still trips over him. I don't think the umps call obstruction and I doubt the Cardinals complain too much. Even though it still might technically have been obstruction.

Horrible call at the end there.
All im saying is that had obstruction not been called...stl wouldn't be bitching about it that it shoulda been called.

I don't like the rule being a thing if there isn't any intention (don't think there was, but w/e), but the rule was correctly enforced. |

Even Craig would have made it home on his one leg if he didn't trip over Middlebrook.

CORRECT call at the end... If you don't like it, petition for a rule change. The call was without a doubt correctly called
