Just got Comcast broadband and...
While it is very fast compared to my old DSL, I have noticed some odd behavior. For example, I just ran a speed test at www.speedtest.net. It took a good 10 seconds for the map to show up. I clicked the "Begin Test" button and it took another ten or so seconds before the test actually began. Speed is 24 MB down and 6 up. This happens randomly on every website I go to and happens on every machine in my network.
Any ideas, please? Thanks. |

I'd recommend unplugging your cable modem and removing the battery for a minimum of two minutes. Unplug the power from your wireless router as well. After two minutes, replace the battery and plug in the modem. Once it's fully ready, power up the router. Once it's broadcasting a signal, re-check all devices for connectivity. Good luck! |

Switch to Verizon Fios if it is available in your area, Comcast is terrible. I am forced to get them where I live, and it has been a very unpleasant experience.

I have tried a full power reboot a few times already. My modem doesn't have battery backup. It seems to help for a few hours and then the same thing.

It isn't available. My choices are Qwest DSL (which I had), Comcast or Clearwire. I could go to Verizon LTE if needed, but I'd rather sort this out if I can.

I would try smacking it. That's my solution for all technological problems.
I go through a lot of hardware. |

Have you tried plugging your cable modem directly to a computer? If so, did the issue persist?

Test on different servers other than the recommended (usually a local Comcast hosted) to see what your speeds are like once you leave the Conmcast network. Mine are usually half. Comcast is usually pretty fast to services on their own network, and pretty crappy when your accessing services hosted elsewhere. Just my experience.

If you notice a speed jump w/ a direct connection from the modem I would suggest performing a firmware update w/ the router. My speeds were 1/3 what they should have been until I update the FW on my router.

If its an old router even afirmware upgrade wont help the speed. I had a linksys and i wasbarely getting 24mb out ofit when i have ther 50MB line. Tech came out and ran tests. nothing wrong. We did a firmware upgrade still nothing. Finally bought a new router and im up to about 58mb right now. Huge difference when downloading lol.

I get like 16 coming down and one going up. Of course, the overwhelming majority of my usage is up. |
