Beginning of the end of the NFL - The Pick Play

Forget the outcome of tonight's game. If the Chiefs won, I would still have the same feelings about what I saw tonight.

I saw the article talking about Denver's pick plays this week. They are essentially money plays. Need a first down pick play. Tonight reminded me of playing Madden football and how there are things that are almost impossible to stop. Manning excels in this because he is such an accurate passer.

If more and more teams start doing this and the NFL doesn't stop it. Then the NFL will lose my interest just like the NBA has.

Go ahead and call me a soar loser now

Because we already know the answer and we don't like it?

I don't mind pick plays...what bothers me is when they're ran with clear OPI and it's never called.

Nowadays the game and rules are so skewered towards the offensive side of the ball, it's borderline laughable.

I'm really surprised more teams don't try to copy Denver's blueprint and just build a complete juggernaut of an offense with a serviceable defense.

Very well could be the formula to win in this NFL from here on out...

When I think of pick play I think of 2 WR's lined up next to each other and 1 guy blocking the defender to open up the other. I don't think of 2 WR's lined up on opposite sides of the field crossing through the middle.

I'm sure every team runs pick plays at one time or another. Denver just happens to run more of them.

I know it's easier said than done, but if you're going to get beat on a pick play, then get picked. That might be the only way to plead your case. I agree. I think it's a bullshit play. If you're going to allow it, then lighten up on the defensive holding rules.

This. The only big one was in the redzone on the welker catch. Other than that, they didn't really set any big or obvious picks that I can complain about.

The one pass to Welker in the first half, Welker was still breaking out of his route and Decker was already down field blocking Flowers.

The Broncos WRs block before the pass is thrown a ton too.

Didn't decide this game, but I'd also like some consistency.

this. What about when Decker watched for the DB and threw his ass out there in front on purpose?

The problem isn't the pick play which is border line legal, its that Denver is allowed blatant illegal picks. I think that's what everyone is talking about around the league. A pick play where the receiver runs a route and "accidentally" makes contact is hard to judge.

There were two perfect examples of this in the first half. One was on the right side, Welker went out to do his pick, and the Chiefs corner was going around him. Welker stopped and threw his hip out into the defender. The other was on the left side with Thomas. He picked from the outside in, and actually stopped his route and jumped to the side and set a basketball pick. Those have to be called, but in Denver never are.

And not get flagged for OPI.

Anything that helps Golden Boy Manning.

Exactly - it's ****ing illegal.

Dungver ain't shit, Manning ain't shit.

If those dickheads had to play the same rules as the rest of the league, they'd be flirting with .500.

Remember in the Giants game, when we got flagged for running a play that was basically just like the Welker/Thomas pick that was mentioned earlier??

Yeah, we got flagged for OPI on that shit.

****ing WWNFL...

you wont get those calls against Peyton just like a good team in the NBA won't get any calls against Lebron, Kobe, etc.
