Alex Smith did, does, and will always suck.

To your argument, I honestly just don't know what you're seeing. Their offensive line through 2011-2012 was one of the best, ours is one of the worst. Vernon Davis is probably the third most dangerous TE in the league behind Graham and Gronk, we're essentially trotting out warm bodies. They had Crabtree, Manningham and Moss, we have Bowe, Avery and McCluster.

Our one claim over them at the RB spot is dampened by the fact that their ground game was nearly as successful as ours over that span.

To me, there is no argument.
I think our WR cores are about even...a slight edge goes to the Chiefs at RB but there's a huge difference with the TEs and the OL.

Moss sucked...he did. Too old. He served as a decoy for the first few games and made a play here and there later on..but that was it.

What you're really looking at in 2011-12 was Crabs, ginn, Williams. At the end of 2011 it was Crabs and Williams and some PS scrubs. 2012 he did have Manningham who I think is better than Avery but Williams doesn't seem to be better than Dexter.

I would love Cutler but he would get 15 to 20m a year on open market. Chiefs cant fit that in next year.

Cassel threw 12 interceptions in 7+ games last season. He had a passer rating of around 60 and a QBR of 36. Don't you think the absence of Cassel is a fairly major difference this year?

I mean, you even mention Smith not turning the ball over as your third reason why the Chiefs are better this year. Does that sound like Cassel 2.0?

Then how is he Cassel 2.0? He does something Cassel does not.

I'll offer Cutler half of McCluster's rap profits.

That should bring down to around 11-13. Now, if we can get Butler to go halfsies on the BBQ sauce we could be looking at Cutler for 5/6M a year.

The only thing that would force the Chiefs brass to look really hard at the QB position if the O lays an egg in the very first playoff game. If we win a playoff game riding the D, it is very hard to make a critical change amidst a winning culture and that too when its created after 20 years.

I have a strong hunch that Reid and Dorsey disagree with the "Smith is the problem" meme. I'd be shocked if Smith was jettisoned after the season is over. I'm guessing there will be a complete WR overall with the possible except of Bowe.

I have no idea what they will do with the O-line.

Cassel, the upgraded version. Cassel without turnovers=Cassel 2.0

Either way they overpaid to the point of eliminating other possible options.
I think you are correct -- there was crap for QB available last year, so the prices were higher. Smith cost more than he was worth. That said, I'd still take Smith over Geno, obviously.

I am a computer guy so that is how I look at them. Cassel is the first version of a software program, full of potential with alot of bugs. A year later they release v 2.0 which is a slightly better version and fixes most of the bugs (ie INT's)

So does Brady = Bledsoe 2.0?

Maybe the whole 2.0 doesn't help much.

Price higher for QBs this year? Are you ****ing stupid. 4 teams were in the QB market this offseason - Chiefs, Raiders, Cardinals, and Bills. The 49ers weren't going to trade him to the Cardinals. Alex Smith doesn't have the arm to play in Buffalo. That leaves the Chiefs and Raiders. The Chiefs essentially were bidding against them self and got suckered.

Smith appears to be more than a slight upgrade to Cassel, based on statistics (as well as intangibles).

I should probably clarify -- I'm arguing that Cassel was horrible. Horrible, horrible. Smith isn't perfect, but he's quite a bit better than Cassel.

I mean, I think it does. If Brady= Bledsoe 2.0 and Smith=Cassel 2.0, then we're looking at a minimum of 2 rings.

At least, that's what cdcox's software has foretold me in secret.
