That's still a lot of jack.

At this point, I have no idea who to promote for coaching gigs. All of the hyped hires are almost universally a product of great players and suck without them.

That's the NFL in a nutshell, though. Schwartz and Gunther were butt buddies from their days in Tennessee, and given Fisher's inability to ever have a team not stocked with felons committing 130 penalties a year, it's not surprising that this Detroit team commits just as many dumbass mistakes.
Yeah, nepotistic football league.

He's never leave, but I think David shaw would be a great nfl head coach.

Bill O'Brien would be a perfect hire, IMO.

He favors more of a pro-set, play action heavy downfield passing attack. Off the board, maybe take a look at David Shaw.

Stafford's an old-school, Drew Bledsoe type of immobile, rocket armed pocket passer. I'm not sure he has the accuracy/timing/intelligence for a Coryell offense. But if you set him up in a system that relies on basic pro-sets and power running that opens passing lanes downfield, he could be damn dangerous.

I just don't think he's a smart enough QB for Ehardt Perkins, Coryell, WCO or any of the more complicated offensive schemes.

There is no ****ing way I'd ever leave a top 20 college program for an NFL job.

College gigs pay just as well now, you aren't forced by institutional pressures to work 110 hours a week (even though they are almost certainly filled with non-productive hours), and although you have to recruit, much of that can still be delegated. The worst part would be kissing booster ass. Oh, how that would ****ing suck. Still, better than spending 15 hours a day watching film to try and get an advantage that everyone has already pored over 20 times.

The Lions run a predominantly Coryell system now, and have since they hired Linehan.

Not when you have a defensive quality control assistant teaching the QB. Stafford may come off as a dipshit because of his build and voice, but he's actually a sharp guy. He did really well on his board work, ran a pro set for three years in high school, and scored a 38 on the Wonderlic.

This is why It wouldn't surprise me at all to see an nfl guy bolt to Texas.

He comes off as a dipshit because he plays like one.

I know it's conventional to blame coaching at this point, but c'mon - this isn't a rookie. The guy's been in the league for a pretty long time now. I don't expect him to suddenly flip a switch and become smart with the football.

I haven't solely blamed coaching. In fact, I said some posts back that he's going to have to make a decision about what he wants his career to be. It's not an either/or situation, and he could certainly help himself more, but he isn't being helped whatsoever.
