And if said WR gets there before the fact, as is mostly the case in Denver's offense, whats that called? THAT play by Welker was not "illegal" because he plays for Denver. However, THAT play IS ILLEGAL EVERYWHERE ELSE. You NEVER have to deal with it because the rules are different for Denver.

Go look at the gif again. Think about the pass interference rules. Now, think about how they have been enforced this season. It's the exact same thing. That play wasn't illegal because it's not against the rules. Denver doesn't get called on it as often because they are very good at it. They have an outstanding future HOF QB that works his WR's asses off all year long on being in the right place at the right time. It pays off.

I (and former ref Perreira) think List is actually right here. Because Wlker hits Talib at the same time that the ball hits the receiver, it's a block not a pick.

If he'd hit TAlib a half-second earlier than he did, however, it's a horrendous pick play and definitely illegal. I don't know that that isn't a fair bit of luck there in terms of the timing of those two events.

I've looked at the .gif 10 times and it's very, very close. I think Welker hits him before the ball arrives, but it's very, very close. If it's that close after watching a .gif 10 times, it's not likely to be called by refs who are generally going to give offenses the benefit of the doubt. Especially when that offense has Manning.

I can't tell if that blur is the receiver's arm or the ball coming in. Or both.

I agree that for that past 5-6 years, maybe longer, the benefit of the doubt will always go to the offense, and especially a Manning-led offense. He's earned those calls, and all the hating won't change that.

Now, what defense might want to do is plan for it and attack it. Lead with the shoulder into the chest (keep it legal because they aren't a defenseless WR if they're a blocker) and fight your way through the block. If the NFL has problems with that, let that be discussed in time Monday meeting amongst the nfl's leadership. But at Soml point somebody is going to have to tell the NFL they can't have it both ways.

Again, that's called a block. It happens quite often in football games, at least when some of the better offensive teams are playing (which might explain your confusion).

It's incredibly close. May well have been a penalty. I just don't know where the "cheap" and "intended to injure" comes from.

Bellichick doesn't like getting thoroughly outcoached as he was yesterday and he has a person beef against Welker. I love Coach Bill, but his motives are clear. He's trying to shift the heat from himself to Wes.
