We would get another Haith, we have to face reality that we cannot hire good coaches at Mizzou.

Incredibly frustrating basketball season. my reaction is pretty similar to the one Jabari Brown had after Rosburg fumbled that perfect setup out of bounds, late in the game.
:double facepalm: This interior group is just bad, and though some of it is out of his control, Haith still takes blame there. Rosburg is a waste. J3 and Torren Jones look like they're going to be good players, eventually, but neither is an instant start. J3 especially has hit the freshman wall. Post is a miss. And instead of realizing that his interior players are not up to snuff and just embracing a small lineup, Haith insists on playing 2 posts at all times. Wes Clark has also been up and down, but he's a much better player than their second interior option. Criswell getting in the dog house and never getting out (while also playing like shit when in the game, most of the time) really crippled this team. Haith is just obsessed with playing a big lineup... and even when they do go small against a 2-3 zone, they don't use Ross appropriately (flashing to the high post). As for moving on... next season will be important for Haith, undoubtedly. I am assuming both Brown and Clarkson are playing for a paycheck next year. If that's the case, the roster might be young/inexperienced enough for Haith to get one more pass. 2014-15 is going to turn on how much Jones and J3 improve over the offseason and how much wing scoring impact Biedschied, Bello and Namon Wright can add in their first year in the program. Need at least 2 of those guys to be good scorers with both Jones and J3 becoming legitimate SEC interior players. Tall order...

Painter gave Purdue one more chance to match, and they (surprisingly) came through. Of course, that might have been a bullet dodged... since that flirtation, Painter is 53-42 (23-26) at Purdue, and his recruiting has been pretty bad. I have a hard time believing he would have handled the roster turnover as well as Haith has... since he went through similar roster turnover between the 2010-11 season and 2011-12 season and has never really recovered from it.

Regarding the bigs:
I really thought Post would start. I never imagined he'd be such a god-awful piece of shit. He got offers from some very good schools, too, so I can't kill Haith for that one, as it seems everyone was off on him, but how could they all be so off? He has size, but no discernible athletic ability or basketball skill. Torren Jones has been our best big for weeks, yet he spent almost the entire second half on the bench yesterday. I'd like to believe that J3 just hit a wall, but he hasn't been impressive all year. He just looks like an energy guy to me. Rosburg is good for one thing: disproving the notion that white basketball players are universally savvy/heady. He has a BB IQ of 35. He's always in the wrong place on defense, he bungles almost every switch, and he can't even make a goddamned layup despite being nearly 7' tall. He's the most useless sonofabitch alive.

Even his coach at JUCO said it would be his second year before he really got into the flow. I think it's possible Post is a solid contributor (4 points, 5 boards, 12 min or so) next season, but that's the ceiling, IMO. I'm not sure why Jones doesn't get more time. The guy is good for a blown assignment/half, so maybe that's part of the problem. He's still trying to catch up to the college game. I like everything else about him, though... the size, length, strength. He also has good touch from the FT stripe, runs the floor well, and is generally pretty athletic. I really think he's a guy who could be similar to Patric Young of Florida by the time he's a junior/senior. I know you're down on J3, but I still think you're looking at a quality player. I don't ever expect him to be an offensive dynamo or "superstar" player, but I think he's a good, solid, 4-year starter who gives great effort and wipes the glass pretty effectively. He's averaged 7 boards a game for a team that desperately needs interior play, despite being obviously lacking in the strength he needs to excel. Give him a year in the offseason program, working with Pandov, and I think you see a stronger, more agile and slightly more athletic player next year. With that added strength, he should be more reliable finishing at the rim (through contact - his problem on the offensive end in conference play) and also tougher on the glass/defensively. Rosburg is a waste of sperm who only was offered because he's from St. Louis and St. Louis must be appeased at all costs. Though I'm sure if he played at a bumbleshit school like SLU, where he was facing players with similar physical traits/limitations, he'd be much better. He's a mid-major, not high-major, big. Just doesn't have the quickness/athleticism/strength to be an effective 5 in the SEC.

I'm still angry about the game last night. I was watching it live at Coleman Coliseum, and it was one of the worst-officiated games I can ever recall seeing.
Randolph has a career game times infinity. I watch a lot of Alabama games in-person, and while he's gotten hot from behind the line before he's never straight dunked on fools, like he did 4 times last night. Sheesh. Rosburg gave maybe the single worst performance that I've ever seen a major conference D1 player give in-person. I've seen zero-point, zero-board performances more convincing than that. I had to be restrained by friends from going up to him during halftime warmups so that I could teach him how to set a proper screen. |

The Alabama student section (so we're not talking basketball geniuses here) was ironically calling Rosburg "The Fixer" because it was so obvious to even the frat idiots in Tuscaloosa that Rosburg is a pointless void that doesn't improve any situation for Mizzou.

It seems like I see this every week that I watch a game. I'm kind of in awe of the widespread and consistent hatred for officiating in the SEC this year. Most people will even recognize that the officiating sometimes goes in their favor, but it's still just bad and inconsistent.

I've heard before that we won't get a decent hoops coach at Mizzou as long as Alden is AD.
He micromanages / meddles way too much for most coaches to put up with it. Probably drawback from the way he handled the Quin situation. |
