Malaysia Airlines loses contact with plane carrying 239 people
Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane with 239 aboard enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
The airline said in a statement early Saturday it was attempting to locate the Boeing 777 after it lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported the plane was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, and did not make contact with Chinese air traffic controllers. The plane is carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members. The airline said it is working with authorities to locate the plane. Boeing said on its Twitter account it is monitoring the situation, and "our thoughts are with everyone on board." http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03...ing-23-people/ Malaysian jet probe sharpens focus on passengers, crew as new clues emerge http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03...-indian-ocean/ Last edited by ShowtimeSBMVP; 03-15-2014 at 09:02 AM.. |

My issue with terrorism is this...
If you are going to use a jumbo jet for an attack, and let's presume that simply hijacking one midflight isn't possible, because you'd need to have the plane on the ground to prepare... Why not just ****ing buy an old plane? Why alert the entire world to your plan? Why involve 239 passengers and crew? Then you have to deal with so many more complications than necessary. I feel like this was either purely confined to the cockpit or this was a government act of espionage in order to either get someone off that plane or on it. |

This theory is refuted by Jeff Wise at Slate, who says that it is “emotionally compelling” but “is simple – to a fault”:
Take other major findings of the investigation into account, and Goodfellow’s theory falls apart. For one thing, while it’s true that MH370 did turn toward Langkawi and wound up overflying it, whoever was at the controls continued to maneuver after that point as well, turning sharply right at VAMPI waypoint, then left again at GIVAL. Such vigorous navigating would have been impossible for unconscious men. |

Michael G. Fortune, a retired pilot who now works as an aviation consultant and expert witness, said pilots preparing to change destination "would have communicated their emergency and intentions to turn around, as well as ask for assistance and direct routing to a suitable airport from the air traffic controllers very quickly."
Goodfellow also wrote: "in the case of fire the first response [is] to pull all the main busses and restore circuits one by one until you have isolated the bad one." Fortune, who flew 777-200ERs like the one involved here, said pilots follow a specific procedure when there's smoke or fire in the cabin. He didn't buy into the idea that the transponders would have been turned off in an attempt to deal with the problem. "The checklist I utilized for smoke and fumes in the B-777-200ER does not specifically address the transponder being turned off," he said. Steve Abdu, a 777 captain for a major carrier, echoed Fortune's point that there's a clear checklist to follow in this kind of situation. And, he pointed out, it's unlikely smoke would have knocked the pilots unconscious or killed them — because they have oxygen masks. Each pilot has a quick-donning mask, and putting it on is step one on the fire checklist. It covers the full face, even if the pilot wears glasses, and can be put on in about two seconds. "These masks are quite excellent at protecting a pilot from smoke and fumes," Fortune said. |

I would think that even non-vigorous navigating would be problematic for unconscious men.

I almost spit out my drink when I saw one of the theories is the plane broke apart in mid air. There was a couple Iranians on board and no one's heard from Frankie

Me too.
I did read where the Pilots flight sim is on its way to Quantico for further scrutiny by the FBI. That tells me what ever was erased wasn't just you standard send it to Windows recycle bin and delete. The FBI experts on site couldn't retrieve and calls for more drastic measures. Also some retired General on Fox News says he has reliable sources that people in the Pentagon think it landed in Pakistan. He wouldn't name but said they are high ranking. |
