Anyone have a link to this? Only thing I can find is a short interview with Reid saying that he expects the deal will get done, just doesn't know when. Anyone else have anything?

I’m told that extension talks between the #Chiefs & Alex Smith have been "almost nonexistent” in recent months, per a league source.

Ohhh, Alex is the only player who cannot negotiate a contract that would be beneficial to himself/family and the team.. he's the only player that should just take whatever is thrown at him lol. gimme a break.

There is nothing wrong with him trying to maximize his earnings. That being said, it has been argued here for months that Alex Smith was a guy who would be willing to take a lower than market value contract in order to help out the team. That doesn't seem to be the case.

I hope Alex does think he is worth a top 5 QB contract. Would love to see him go out and earn that kind of salary this season.

Alex Smith has proven to be a fine stopgap starter but the goal is to find QB good enough to mask weaknesses & make other guys better.

I'm sure Condon is being completely reasonable and isn't a greedy asshole (yet a very very good agent) who gets people like Jay Cutler extraordinarily overpriced deals. And I'm sure Dorsey, who was responsible for the overpriced contracts of Dunta Robinson, Chase Daniel, Anthony Fasano, and Dwayne Bowe, is now choosing to be extra stingy and cheap, and is not willing to give Alex the money that most people think he deserves. We have two sides to this situation: a GM known for letting agents gouge him and an agent who's exceptionally good at getting his middle-grade QB clients $100 million deals. We also know from reports that the two sides are extremely far apart. What the **** do YOU think is going on? Because if the reports of the difficulties regarding this contract negotiation are true, then I see all I need to see. |

Reid successfully expanded A. Smith over course of '13. Became more willing to pull trigger. Id want full year of that before paying big $.

We'll see what Alex Smith ultimately signs for, if he re-signs in Kansas City. I expect that contract will end up making those fanbois look like hopeful Alex homers more than anything else. But what do you expect from guys who start liking a team because a player they like got traded there?
