OC, I am curious to know how you know the Chiefs don't want to sign him to a long term contract. Maybe I just missed something, but I thought both sides were interested. Negotations are just part of the deal.

Yep. These are signs that the contract negotiations are not going as they thought that they would have. It is also a reason for us to have been interested in Johnny Manziel.

Why would those guys lie after the draft? There would be no point in it at all, it would be servicing anything or anyone.
On the other hand after the Smith/Kaepernick fiasco in SF I think that it has been made plain that Smith doesn't want to be put in that situation again. So if we weren't interested and texting I think that Reid would be in the media shooting down these stories to help Smith feel better about his future with the Chiefs.

If trading 2 2nd round picks for a veteran QB and signing all those fa to starter type deals doesn't scream win now, what does?

The owner, coach and GM all want him here. He's their guy. It's going to get done.

Oh I'm sure they want him here.

At what price remains to be seen.

I guess so. the Colquitt and Bowe deals were a bit much.

Never felt like they were breaking the bank on high dollar FAs. You think signing role players says win now? Even if you think they were vastly over paid. At the time not one deal with those FAs said we're all in for this year to me.

I do think they wanted to win. As I said, I don't think they expected the immediate success they had.

If they don't want to pay him, great. But you can't have it both ways. Either he's worth it, you pay him and th pucks are worth it, you don't pay him and let him walk and the picks were a disaster.

It can't be great trade, not worth contract.
I think most have stated it was a lousy trade for us. I also think that Reid and Dorsey thought that Smith would have reasonable contract demands. Now Condon is the one saying show me the money and we are not so sure about Smiths future with the Chiefs.

Wasn't Farmer just relaying what JM and his agent said?
