Reading Nothing But Positives About Our D Line

Either our o line isnt so great or our d line is gonna be nasty. Everyone i spoke to at the camp or anything ive read online says the d line looks completely dominant. Poe is a ****ing 340 lbs bear, Bailey looks HUGE at over 300 lbs and Catapano might be one of the leanest 295 lbs guys in the NFL. I heard all these guys are killing it and I heard maybe the MOST impressive of them all is Mike Devito! Hearing he is leaner and faster and has simply destroyed every drill against the o line. I was looking for pics and found these...any good pics of Devito? I'm excited about this defense and i wont lie......just a bit nervous about this o line for some reason but hopefully they prove otherwise.

Agreed. All reports from camp say that Walker has done well and looks good but sits as a back up on the depth chart because Bailey and Catapano look even better.

Base D #1 starters as of now are Poe, Bailey and an improved more athletic looking Devito.

Sub-package #1 grouping is Poe and Catapano as inside rushers with Hali and Houston

Bailey may not be the best rusher but was stout against the run last year....and now 15 lbs heavier should be a force! So him Poe and a more athletic Devito equal almost 1000 lbs of beef up front with the best linebackers in the NFL backing them up. I like the sound of it

I like Devito- he is a sure tackler, good run stopper and rarely did I see him get pushed off the ball. Coming into camp in the best shape of his career should only help his numbers.

They have sung praises about Bailey for so long with little to show in production, that I have a hard time getting excited about him. I will be guardedly optimistic based on reports until I see some game action.

Athleticism has never been a problem.

Love the idea of not having a run - stopping line and a different pass - rushing line and both lines crappy outside their specialty. A rotation that can do it all would be nice.

It is a weird Kansas City irony that so many posters unilaterally hate drafting a left tackle in the first round and then complain the OL sucks.

Our defensive front seven includes four first round picks.

Our offensive line has one.

My first thought was "Aren't you guys complaining about your O-line?".

I would take anything this time of year with a grain of salt. Especially since the author of those articles lives in KC and went to Oak Park HS.

shit vs shit
good vs good

You just can't tell how good anyone is until the preseason games and face another team.

shitty WR vs shitty secondary or good wr vs good secondary it's going to look the same other than drops and/or blown assignments.

Oline/Dline are especially difficult to tell what the hell is going on during TC

True, but both Rod Hudson and Jeff Allen were second round picks and Don Stephenson was a third (and should have been in the mix as the first tackle taken in the 2013 Draft had he stayed in school for his senior year - kind of a similar situation to what the Chiefs got in Jamaal Charles when he came out after his junior year).

Those guys aren't chopped liver from a draft status perspective (especially a second round guard and second round center - those are considered pretty high draft picks for those positions) and should be stepping up and performing to their draft status.

I have high hopes for both, especially Rod Hudson. Center is not an easy position to learn, especially at the NFL level but he is a very talented guy from a skill set perspective. (I personally though he was the best college interior lineman I'd seen since Will Shields at Nebraska. Both very similar in game play as well as size/length.)

Allen has a very good work ethic and skill set. I believe the light turns on for him this season.

weird

out of all our Olinemen, Hudson is the guy i have the least hope for

Fisher - potential is their regardless of how much CP wants to bitch
Allen - might be in the wrong position but physical potential is there
Hudson - seems to me like he always going to be a liability against power
RG - some young guys with some talent who might become really solid
Stephenson - I think he has talent to be a solid guy at either OT position

imo Hudson is also one of the key issues in short yardage. When defenses clog the middle and your center can't handle a solo block then it's going to be difficult to run up the middle.

If you're adding Donald Stephenson as a first round talent, then I'm adding Justin Houston as well.

Additionally, this team has spent a ton more resources on the DL. It isn't just that they spent a first rounder on Tamba, Poe, and Ford... They also spent a top five pick on Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson. The reason I think that is important is that you're going to miss on draft picks. They have invested first round pick after first round pick in the defensive line until finally they found guys that can play there.

In the last fourteen years, literally half of our draft picks were spent on the front 7 (and only one of those - DJ - was specifically for a linebacker).

To compare... only 2 first round picks in the same time were spent on OL, and each was a left tackle.

I think the residual hatred of drafting OL for KC fans comes from 98 and 99, when we took back-to-back tackles in Victor Riley and John Tait three years after drafting Trezelle Jenkins.

Also, the funny thing is that, if we had just drafted Mark Sanchez, no one would be angry about Eric Fisher. Sanchez would have sucked, sure. He would have been a total bust. But he wouldn't have given any less than we got from Tyson ****ing Jackson. And it would have eliminated the whole "This team won't draft a QB" stigma.

Was looking around for 1 on 1 drills online from camp, seems kinda hard to find. There were some on Kansas City Star online but a bit far away and hard to view. Found these few 1 on 1 drills with Catapano. Cat looks pretty good but then again im not sure who is going against (looks like #66 and #68) If anybody has any footage from camp please share. http://youtu.be/HCsl0osoJBA

I'm not complaining about our offensive line. I realize that when you practice these 1 v 1 drills, somebody has to win.

Against a behemoth like Poe, there are very very few offensive linemen out there that can stop him one-on-one in those drills. And even against aggressively strong guys like Bailey, a lot of offensive linemen aren't going to be able to hold them up for long. There's no redirection path they can use. These drills have got to be significantly more difficult for the offensive line than the defensive line.

So I also fail to see why people are jumping to this, "Our offensive line sucks" conclusion based on the reports from one drill from one day. I'm not hearing about our QBs getting fake sacked in 11 on 11, nor am I hearing about all the pressure they have to face.

Like others have said, we'll know more about our offensive line when preseason games start. And personally, I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised. They won't be the greatest unit out there, but I think they'll demonstrate that they can get the job done, especially if Hudson and Stephenson are completely healthy.

Mark Sanchez was no more shitty at being a QB than Tyson Jackson was at being a 5-tech DE.

And at least drafting Sanchez wouldn't have made your entire organization look like a bunch of pussies.
