Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

If you were assembling your "must have" weapons for home emergency preparation, what would they be? How much ammo for each?
BTW, so far, I have a Ruger 22 Takedown rifle. 2000 rounds. And a Ruger 9mm hand gun. 100 rounds. Do I need a AR? Thanks |

no single caliber does all things so you have to have a few different guns. .22 for small game, 9mm for close in self defense, and a 5.56/223 for the plentiful ammo (it's not super good for self defense per say, but you can hunt larger varmints with it, like wild dogs or something). I'd probably go with a larger caliber for self defense and hunting like a .308 rifle of some kind, rather than an AR.

Just a heads up, I picked all three up late last week at the local store. Thanks again!

I have a 10/22, a 9mm pistol, a 556/223 rifle, and a 12 gauge. I think that covers most of the situations, although I am seriously considering picking up a cheap mosin nagant.

I wouldgo with these
.22 mag for small game .40 for my carry pistol An AR in .300 blackout..with subsonic rounds and suppressed 2 12 guage shotguns..1 for self defense and 1 for bird hunting Then a large caliber hunting rifle..I prefer .270 but 300 Win mag would be good if you are in the mountains for larger game I think you would want as much .22 mag as possible..you can use it for about anything smaller than a deer..you can use on deer if you can get a clean shot to the head but risky obviously Pistol ammo would be another you would want as much as possible..you would be carrying all the time so it'd be hard saying what all you would need to use it for..I would want a suppressor for my pistol..I would want hollow point and some FMJ The blackout I would wamt a few thousand rounds at least..a mix of subsonic and sonic rounds I would want lots of shotgun rounds..you need lots for the 1 you leave in home..I would want lots for bird hunting With the larger caliber you would be ok with a few thousand rounds..that would last for a very long time |

Are we talking long term buyout or short term like a natural disaster and you've got to hold hints down short term? I've got an ar-22 or a browning pump 22 mag for small game, a mossberg 935 12 ga and rem 870 for me scatter gun, then a ruger mark II m77 30-06 for the big stuff. As well as a youth model rem 700 7mm-08 for the wife. I'm looking for another ruger lc9 and a 1911 for close range stuff. That's if I were to have to hold down the fort for awhile if I was going true blue bug out I'd take my 935 and the slug barell, the 30.06 and the ar-22 for small game/make a lot of noise.

Everybody needs a Mosin Nagant. They're the most affordable large caliber rifle around. And milsurp ammo is cheap and plentiful. You can easily find it for less than $.25 cents/round.

I have about all the about mentioned calibers plus several others and a few hundred of most ammo and close to a thousand .223. I should get more rim fire ammo on hand but I have the ingredients and the capability to make 1000's of rounds for my hand guns and 3-4 of my center fire rifles. Powder and primers will last longer than I will in a cool dry place and a few hundred pounds of lead don't take up much space at all.

Been toying with the idea of one of these. Don't know much about the round though.
