2014 Broncos Offseason postmortem

In the offseason Denver signed

Aqib Talib (6 years, $57 million, $26 million guaranteed)
TJ Ward (4 years, $22 million, $15 million guaranteed)
Demarcus Ware (3 years, $30 million, $20 million guaranteed)
Emmanuel Sanders (3 years, $15 million, $6 million guaranteed)

...and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth around here.

Peyton Manning's base salary next year goes from $15 million to $19 million, and Denver's penalty for cutting him would drop from $22 million to $5 million.

Denver's team was built for this season, and they have failed with a one-and-done in the postseason.

Furthermore, how did those free agents look today, when it mattered?

After the game, Andrew Luck went up to Aqib Talib and said, "Good game, Kendrick".

The Emmanuel Sanders deal still pisses me off. How different would our WR corps be?

Life without Manning will be difficult for the Broncos. And for all the talent that defense has, where the hell where they today. That's what didn't make any sense to me.

How many times do I have to tell everyone that you can't just fix eveything with a bunch of bought players. They bought too many individuals that are only there for money. They don't have the hunger.

Yeah, but without a proven QB they don't scare many.

This year for Denver looked a lot like some of the years that Daniel Snyder splurged in FA for the Redskins and brought in all those big name players, and on paper it looked amazing, but when the players were on the field, it just never came together.

The Denver Broncos lost today because Peyton Manning played absolutely awful. Overthrow after overthrow, which is hilarious considering his "noodle arm". So many one on one coverages he had shots to capitalize on, and he just didn't make the throws.

13 points is something I expect to see when Alex Smith takes the field, not Peyton Manning.

.
This is why upgrading the talent around Alex isn't going to make a damn bit of difference.

But this fan base never learns.

I kind of wanted them to get crushed in the Super Bowl again. Love to see them embarrassed in front of 100 million people.

Vs. what other option? Just stand pat and throw in the towel before the season even starts? If we spend in FA's my biggest concern is both OG's and resigning Houston and Hudson. We need to run block for Charles and Davis, then use the run to establish the pass. Albert Wilson showed a glimmer of hope, but we need a legit playmaker with speed to get open enough for Smith to throw the ball his direction.

They were building up a team in order to get the best shot before Manning was finished. Either Manning's hurt and they'll have one more shot, or they were a year too late.

Either way, I don't see any problem with what they did.

I have this sliver of hope that Dorsey will keep building a fast athletic team through the draft, the. One day when we accidentally get a qb in like round 3 he'll develop to average or above average starter. Then smith will go down on a 3rd and 13 failed check down and be out for the season with Ebola aids. Then well have a stacked team with an above average guy and eventually squeak out that playoff win.

Haven't you heard? Del Rio just wanted to lose so he can run off to Jokeland. According to Dung-keys fans.
