There was this one time, it snowed a lot.
I'd love to live there with all the entertainment options, but I'd have to work from home or be able to afford living close to downtown... no way I'd deal with a commute from/to the suburbs unless maybe it was a non-stop train ride and there was wifi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_...ssouri#Climate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago#Climate I wouldn't think winter there would be all that terrible on average, but then again, I don't think KC is nearly as bad as a lot of people who live here.

Unless there are any other mitigating factors that you haven't told us about, then I think you have to do it. I assume your wife is going to be upset if you don't allow her to thrive when it (career-wise) would not have hurt you. The climate change is going to be tough, but at least your commute will consist of rolling out of bed and walking over to your computer in your underwear to "work".

South side is generally below 55, West is 55 to 90 and north is above 90. Oak Park is middle of the West side, don't recommend unless you want to be dead. Hyde Park is more upper class on the South side, close to the water. You'd probably be okay there. Ukraine Village is on the upper West side, you are close to Garfield area which isn't too bad. You'd be best off on the North side, but that's me. My uncle had an apartment off Addison about 4 blocks from boys town and it was a pretty damn clean area but rent was a bit high. |

In KC, I don't find the cold to be bad at all, it's commuting in the snow and ice that sucks. That would be the benefit of working from home in Chicago.

You would probably need to post this on a Chicago Bears board. This would be were you post, sell me on staying in KC over moving to Chicago.
Also, do people actually use food as a determining factor in moving from one big city to another? |

I think when you start talking about the food, then the decision has basically already been made and you are trying to justify the decision.

Food would be down my list of things to attract me to a city...
Probably would have this list. 1. Quality of life - Chicago is more dangerous overall than KC. 2. Job v. Net income - Chicago costs quite a bit to live in, you'll pay 1000-1500 for most studio apartments in decent areas, and just go up with size. 3. Schools - Depends on area 4. Commute - Have you ever been stuck in rush hour in Chicago? Do you mind it taking 2-3 hrs to get from the South side to the North side at times? 5. Weather - Chicago weather sucks compared to KC 6. Entertainment - Chicago has more entertainment options 7. Food - Depends on what you like, but Chicago has some great places. Give up the BBQ for better Mexican, better Pizza, better Steaks, better hot dogs? Edit: Forgot about Parking... My God... If you rent and you aren't in a gated community or get a place with a garage ($$$$), and you have to park on the street... Gooooooooooood luck. I've had to drive around the same few blocks for over an hour to wait for a spot to open up close enough to not freeze the ballsack off walking from the car. Parking can really, really suck ass. If you live on the North side and there is a Cubs game, it can get absolutely ridiculous. Last edited by kccrow; 01-27-2015 at 01:54 PM.. |

I've heard that it's a good reason to not move to Glasgow, Scotland.

I consider food and beverage a low priority but goes towards an overall civic pride consideration, similar to bbq in KC.

Ask your wife what your decision is and get back to us. I'll assume the update will be in the Alex Smith neutered thread.
I keed. Good luck with the move, though. |
