Really? Well, Cya I guess

I see some overly clever mod has decided to change my username and profile picture. I understand this is CP tradition of a kind, but not one I have ever participated in. I have never changed my username, and never will.

Nor will I participate on the board when someone changes mine. The mods are of course well within their rights to change my name, and profile pic and I am well within mine to "vote with my feet".

There was a thread on this before. Some kind of glitch had caused some usernames (including mine) to be changed. I posted something just like this, and of course had to pay the inevitable price when it turned out that it had nothing to do with the mods.

If this is in fact goodbye, then best of luck to the Chiefs whenever they play the Donx or Raiders. It's been a fun decade of discussion and arguments. And, of course, GO PATRIOTS!!

(Yes, yes, "wow, what a whiny crybaby." Bottom line, I don't mess with mods, couldn't even name most of them, and don't expect them to mess with me -- just as they haven't for a dozen years....until now).

I do know there aren't many people who fall into that category for me these days. I won't name names because who the hell cares and I don't want to offend anybody. Although I will say you are one I pay attention to, hence worthwhile in my book.

I just think mods arbitrarily ****ing with people is bad, in general, whether they're doing it to people I like or people I don't (just passin by or whatever the **** his name is is on my ignore list, and has been forever). Because maybe the next person who vanishes because of a mod being a dick is somebody I do respect and might miss. So it's not okay to me just because I don't give a shit about amnorix and think patriots fans are all douches. Would react the same way if it was one of the 9ers assholes that showed up last year who are literally all on ignore and I wish would leave. Would react the same if it were you, or Mer. Because it's a general statement...
This is a special kind of case, though. Amnorix isn't some newbie; he's somebody who KNOWS that occasionally people will get a name change as a joke. Sometimes it's because they're passionately defending a minority argument. He's seen it happen before. He knows that the name will eventually get changed back, and he knows that the people in charge will probably change it back if he asks them to. Did he try doing that? Did he try PMing any of the mods about this? No. He just went straight to posting this "I'm leaving forever" thread.

It's regrettable to see people get turned away by the same tired conversation that inevitably crops up from thread to thread, or because they're sick of the typecasting and categories of fans/posters that people have to fall into as a convenient way of strengthening their arguments. And we all fall into this trap from time to time, but if everybody just does it occasionally, it will basically show up every day on this forum. Not much can be done about it.

I think this is one of the first cases where somebody has left because a mod messed with them. Not because they disapproved of how the mod handled a situation, but just because a harmless prank was pulled on them. People have left because they can't stand the mods on here, but that's because the mods have a tough job, had to make a decision, and somebody's wishes got left out in the cold. This isn't one of those times. Again, it's just a name change; the mods would change it back. They'd do it instantly if asked to. In fact, that's exactly what happened as soon as this thread was posted.

I like Amnorix, too, but he's totally in the wrong on this. He handled it the wrong way, and he's too closed-minded to even come back and see that the mods apologized and made things right again. I hope he comes back, but he's got to know that creating an "I'm leaving forever" thread usually isn't conducive to less ribbing from the natives.

Htsmage only left because his tongue was so sore from licking Geno Smiths balls prior to him becoming a bust, that he needed time to heal. He was embarrassed, as he should have been to talk all that smack and then be wrong.

As far as mods changing posters names? It's generally hilarious. Is it a bit of juvenile humor? Yes, it is. I love juvenile humor. Like googling "rusty trombone" and having Siri read the definition back to me.

Here's a simple solution: Give users the ability to change their own user names. That way if a mod messes with you and changes your name, you can just change it back. No harm, no foul, no "leaving forever" thread.

I know this is possible with vBulletin, as I was a member of another vBulletin site that provided this feature.

For what it's worth, I understand why Amnorix was annoyed, but he over-reacted on an epic scale.

And the name "Asterix" was pure genius.

My name was changed a couple of years ago under similar circumstances. I politely asked a mod to change it back. He did.

Can't do that because then folks woyld be choosing inappropriate user names, or using each others usernames or something similar.

OR USING REAL NFL PLAYER NAMES WHICH IS NOT ALLOWED.

What happens if we all choose "Brainiac"?

Just let me change user names. Then I can fix the problem, fix you a bottle with just a little bit of whiskey in the nipple, and put you to bed.
