I like the previous font more. It's more sporty-looking as it's the classic font for sports.

If that font being used to replace it is a custom font, that technically would be considered their logo. If it's just a font from some library they would never be able to copyright it as their original work.

We're called the browns, but let's just change the helmet to a different shade of orange.

(I know, I know Paul Brown...but the whole team is a dumpster fire)

Kinda like the dumbass chiefs having their ground level seats in a rival teams color (orange) just baseline stupidity.

I was hoping for something a little less extreme.

Johnny 8 Ball is going to look handsome throwing pick-6's wearing his shiny new helmet.

I don't believe that for a second. Why in the world would they purposely spell it incorrectly? Wouldn't that make it more difficult for someone to find them via Google search?

I don't know what their exact rational is, because I don't know their public or why they market the way they do. It may just be that they want it pronounced that way, such as more of a drawl sound, perhaps! Or it's pronounced that way.

Does it really matter when the phonics sound "aw" is the same for the short vowel sound "o" as in dog, cot, pot, top etc.

As to your question about google. I just did a google search for Dawg Pound and it tops the listings.

Okay now to click on the wiki entry under those listings and I see the origin of the word spelled that way. Guess it started out that way. It is a section for noisy ruffians so perhaps that spelling goes hand-in-hand with that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawg_Pound
Quote:
According to Hanford Dixon, then a cornerback with the Browns, Dixon himself gave his defensive teammates the name "Dawgs" to inspire them before the 1985 season. The Dawg Pound started during the 1985 Training Camp at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio.

But it's not uncommon in advertising or when naming products to spell something another way to make it stand out, be catchier, use accepted slang with certain publics or whatever. In fact they don't even have to follow the rules of grammar strictly in some cases. For instance putting a period at the end of sentence in a headline has been known to stop the reader. Things like that.

Do you know that you sometimes try to sound really smart, and whenever you do, the opposite effect takes place?

Did you know that McDonald's forgot to capitalize the first letter in their company slogan, BEP? Or do you think they did it on purpose?

Please respond.

There's also an extraneous apostrophe and the 'g' is missing.

I don't work in their marketing department to know if it was intentional or not. I'm also not a copy writer. I have been told by copywriters I've worked with there are times when it's okay to break the rules. Depends on the medium, your audience and message.

Maybe they did that because some don't use caps in social media and they want to be hip to reach that crowd? Who knows what the rational is.
Though, I see that it caught your attention.<--the first thing a advertiser wants to do. Heh, heh.

Also, bad publicity can be good publicity as well.
