Hali and DJ top that list of higher paid players. Bowe would be option #3 for me. People saying that you can easily replace his production are trying to compare his production with Alex Smith to that of Randall Cobb with Aaron Rodgers. It's dumb. Bowe was what? 200% more productive than any other receiver on the team? They've already cut 2 of their shit corp. They can't afford to cut Bowe without some kind of guarantee of a FA coming to the Chiefs. You can cut Hali because you already made the choice to replace him last draft. You can cut DJ because you just played a whole ****ing season without him and did fairly well. |

Not true. Signing bonus can lower base salary. Houston will get a chunk, but a big bonus gives him what he wants and keeps us relatively cap friendly.

I kind of liked Fasano. His touchdown catch against the Cardinals got us into the playoffs last season.

Again, a huge signing bonus keeps the cap number down.

At the end of the day the Chiefs are probably going to have to tag Houston which will put them like $5M over the cap and need to clear that space in 8 days. Cutting ****s like Fasano and saving a couple million isn't going to cut it.

That's why you make sure you want that player long term. Yes, your way will work, as well, but to keep the vase salary down long term, the big bonus works best. Your way, makes said player's cap number INCREASE, making it more difficult to retain other players.

The Chiefs have around $8M in space? Aaron Rodgers got $33M in cash as a signing bonus 3 years ago. His year 1 cap was $11M. Now Houston wont get as much money as Rodgers but it will maybe be only $10-20 million less. The prorated money of a bonus like that basically covers the cap space the Chiefs have so it doesnt really matter how low his base salary is year 1. |
