Let me give it a week to see if anyone from my camera club comes up with some deserving kid.

By the way the new version of the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS is supposed to be an amazing lens. I almost bought it but went with the Sigma for the extra reach. I also got the 1.4 extender so 840mm sharp as a tack.
Check the reviews on the new Canon here: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-100-400m...ustomerReviews

Which Sigma? I ended up buying the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC (their version of IS), and so far couldn't be happier. Very sharp, not aberration as far as I can tell, good color reproduction straight out of the camera. Totally happy with that purchase. I've got one more I want to buy soon, a 100mm macro. Kind of holding out for the L lens on a refurb, but Canon is currently out of stock. We're upgrading my wife to a 60D; she's been using the Rebel XT in the earlier post to learn and is really enjoying it, so I want to get her something better. She's getting discouraged comparing the quality of that Rebel to my 6D. |

Solid lens and that's the reason they've sold so many of them to those of us who don't make a living with the lens. And mine all but lived at dusty baseball fields for 8 years, and compared to gyms (wrestling), and grass fields (football), these dusty baseball fields are a good test. And mine, like you work with kids, has been the starter camera for any number of "team kids" (player's brothers and sisters and parents), and even more scouts. All I have left for photography is to pass-along my love for it. WHile some just loved holding a big rig (compared to some), and to shoot "like motor drive" (I'm dating myself!!), some learned to love it. Many went on to do it in school, but all knew they could come ask for the camera and 999 times out of a 1,000 I'd hand it over and let them go discover. The beauty of digital!!! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE film, but it's time to let go. My darkroom gear is all but gone, and that's OK. But I still love the memories of plate film (in the periscope), shooting 2-and-a-quarter, smelling like fix, and knowing what DoF is and how circles of confusion make if happen. I still teach them all the latter, and most get it, but more importantly they learn how to use it to their advantage. LOL, much like the AP v SP "sports pics" debate that'll never be won... It's all good as long as you're in the debate... And it's even more fun to debate B&W over color, nobody loses. LOL, sepia!! But hell, I'm finding that unless it's a big deal (and there are fewer of those coming by these days), I'm loving the portability of my Samsung S5 "camera"! LOL, I'm going to hell!!! And I meant to ask and can't remember if I did, but did you ever buy the 20Da? You being into astronomy, I was just wondering.. |

So the EF 50mm on an EF-S camera like the 50D is actually like a 80mm zoom-wise? Is that correct?

It has a USB docking station to change about anything you want but your camera has the aperture priority setting on it. I'm thinking they call it a "Sports" lens due to the weight. Its a work out to hand shoot

I should be getting the 24-70 f/2.8 today. I sold the Canon 28-70 f/2.8L (old model) earlier this week. So for Hawaii next week, we'll take the Tokina 16-28 f/2.8, the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8, the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, and the Canon 100 macro f/2.8. Bodies: 6D and 60D. I'm pretty happy with my gear bag right now. I will eventually want something like a 300mm or one of the 150-500 lenses, but that's a ways away, I think. I'm enjoying the shit out of that macro lens. |

I ended up ordering the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM. I think it will work better for what I need it for, which is just little shots around the house. If I had a full frame camera I probably would have gone with the 50.
