PFT: Unhappy with Chiefs, Houston hopes to attract an offer sheet

Quote:
Mike Florio, ProFootballTalk

It’s highly unusual for franchise players to be signed to offer sheets, because teams regard any unused first-round picks as potential Hall of Fame players. Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston could become the exception, for various reasons.

First, he enters the process after completing a 22-sack season. No player with that kind of performance has been available on the heels of it, with or without compensation.

Second, he’s motivated to move on. Per multiple sources, Houston is very upset with the Chiefs. It’s believed that he’ll actively solicit an offer sheet in the hopes the Chiefs won’t match it.

I'll believe that when I see it.

I think of all things the week 10 part is a total bluff. If his plans to get some team to sign an offer sheet or get KC to sign him to whatever he is looking for don't work out he signs the franchise tender and misses part of camp. We really have no idea what he is really looking for vs. KC offering at this point so agree with your sentiment that its way too early to get worked up about this.

Imagine how Houston must have felt during those locker room celebrations after he beast raped for sacks and impacted games only to see bowe going all slap dick herp Derp with minimal contributions but raping for millions.

Resentment toward KC could be huge I imagine.

Look, the absolutely "ideal" situation, IMO, is this:

1. Houston signs elsewhere
2. The Chiefs are given a first round pick in 2015 and another 2016.
3. Chiefs sign Jerry Hughes for approximately $10 million per (Rex has publicly stated he wants him back in Buffalo, so that's good enough for me to believe he'd fit the system in KC).
4. Chiefs trade both acquired first rounders along with this year's first and another pick for Winston or Mariota.
5. If it's Mariota, he sits for a year or a year and a half behind Smith and takes over in 2017 at the latest.

The Chiefs have their Franchise QB, Hughes replaces Houston's pre-2014 production, Chiefs fans stop bitching (well, for a few days, anyway).

Dan Williams called Carl Peterson's bluff, sat out a whole year, then was rewarded with a fat contract and quickly sucked again.

Let's just hope history doesn't repeat itself.

This is all posturing, IMO, but you don't hear this much, and quite frankly the dispute over him being a DE and not an OLB is pretty ****ing petty. It just truly sounds like Houston is trying his damnedest to get out of KC. You can't sign a player that doesn't want to be here.

That would be incredible. I would love it.

But I'll believe it will happen when it happens.

Too risky. And beside, the team won a championship with some other team's castoff quarterback. It can easily happen again.

Ha. Completely forgot about that. Trying to recall a recent time someone sat out on a franchise tender but most of the holdouts I can recall were just due to someone thinking they were underpaid but under contract.

4) During training camp, Dee Ford and whatever slapdick FA is signed to take Houston's snaps/role will be viewed as a sure-fire breakout star who will match Houston's production (since he's never getting 20 sacks again, anyway).
5) And, eventually, it will be obvious that not signing him was a huge deal, but the Chiefs homers/apologists will still defend it as the right move, for various (bullshit) reasons.

Sure am glad the Chiefs locked up Alex Smith instead of Houston. I mean, when you have the choice between locking up a completely mediocre player at an impact position and a completely elite player at an impact position, the choice is easy, right?
Prediction:

You are hilariously wrong and CP shows once again how overreactionary reeruned they have become

Say Tennessee's GM Dimitroff calls up Dorsey and says, "We'll sign Houston's offer sheet, but you have to give us your first rounder in 2015 to make the deal make sense. If not, then feel free taking the risk of paying $13m for a guy who won't play half a season for you."

If you're Dorsey, aren't you pretty much obligated to take that deal?

I hope you're right ... and I am completely wrong about how this plays out. But it's the Chiefs, so the highest percentage play is to expect the worst.

First item happened 3-4 times, at least, while I was writing my post. So that part is already coming true.
