PFT: Unhappy with Chiefs, Houston hopes to attract an offer sheet

Quote:
Mike Florio, ProFootballTalk

It’s highly unusual for franchise players to be signed to offer sheets, because teams regard any unused first-round picks as potential Hall of Fame players. Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston could become the exception, for various reasons.

First, he enters the process after completing a 22-sack season. No player with that kind of performance has been available on the heels of it, with or without compensation.

Second, he’s motivated to move on. Per multiple sources, Houston is very upset with the Chiefs. It’s believed that he’ll actively solicit an offer sheet in the hopes the Chiefs won’t match it.

Let me ask you a legit question...

If Hudson is so good at his position...why do his line calls constantly leave guys completely unblocked? He should be making the guards around him look better and they were flat out horrid.
No one can make Jeff Linkenbach look better.

Hudson may only be the 5th best center in football, but when his contract comes due and the salary cap keeps escalating, he's going to earn more than that, just like the next guy in his tier will earn more than Hudson when his contract comes due.

I like the Allen Bailey extension. I think it was a fair price

They need to just pay him and be done with this shit. 2 1st rounders is basically just 1 first rounder, because Houston is equivalent to one of the picks and we all know we won't be getting a better player than Houston.

Exactly. These clowns can't be trusted to fill out a selective service card, much less pick a draft.

@corryjoel: Don't be surprised if Justin Houston's agent raises contract demands because of Suh's deal.

That is just utter nonsense.

He's easily a 15-17 sack guy.
If he goes to a team without a very good defensive line, a great secondary and an opposite OLB that's a threat to sack and pressure the QB, he'll see a ton more double teams than he's seen in KC, this reducing his sack output.

2014 was the "Perfect Storm". It's unlikely to ever happen again for him, even if he stays in KC.

Also, for him to "average" 17 sacks a year would mean that he'd put up multiple seasons of 20+ to go along with 14-15 sack season.

That would be basically unprecedented.

Hali was still productive in craeting pressure, but the D-Line was ok, not "very good", and the secondary was great?

Put down the pipe.

Who said "average 17 sacks"?

I said a 15 to 17 sacks.

Just when you think someone has the dumbest agent in sports, along comes an even dumber GM.

I'm not so sure someone won't play chicken with the Chiefs to either get Houston for just a smidge over our contract or force the Chiefs to pay up.

If I was a team and the top draft pick was Eric Fisher, I'd give that shit up so fast it would make your head spin.

Problem is that this draft is pretty strong at pass rusher. Teams probably don't feel the need to give up that kind of comp for Houston. If they need a pass rusher, they can just draft one.

Poe, Bailey and Howard were much better than "okay", as was the secondary.

There are very few teams that have multiple elite pass rushers coupled with very good defensive lines and secondaries.

If Houston goes to a team with weaknesses in either, it will be very, very difficult to rack up 15-17 consistently while avoiding injuries.
