I don't have any qualms with what Glass did this year, to be honest. I think he actually authorized some overspending on Rios and Morales and I think he got a solid deal on Volquez.
I'm speaking generally, however. If you're a team that's not winning and it takes operating losses to become a contender/champion - I think a lot of these guys would go ahead and take them. It's just the competitive side of them.
Then again, it appears the businessman side of them wins out more often than I would have expected.
Jerry Jones is the 'apex' owner for this phenomena. If the Cowboys lost him $100 million/yr he would give precisely zero ****s, IMO. He'd keep writing huge checks and building extravagant stadiums. Cuban is a guy like that as well. Prokharov (Nets owner) is like that. These are guys that simply get off on owning sports teams and don't really care if they lose money on them.
