Game of Thrones (spoiler-free zone)
A few have suggested it, might as well test the waters. The idea is to give people who haven't read the books a safe place to talk about the show.

A few quick ground rules:
  • No Spoilers!!!!! for upcoming episodes.
  • Larger Song of Ice and Fire discussion should be limited to the other thread although I think a tiny bit of book delving to fill in holes should be okay (example of this would be talking about Catelyn and her treatment of the wolves in the novel, which was alluded to on TV but never really made clear...)
  • Everything that happened that week is fair game once an episode airs. So if you don't watch on Sunday night, I'd stay outta here until you do...

Easily Cersei for me. Theon's been utterly broken. I feel sorry for him. I don't care what he did, no one deserves what he's been put through. I was aching for him to snap out of it and stop Ramsay.

Speaking of Ramsay... I wasn't surprised at all that he turned into the abusive husband; I was surprised at how quickly. I didn't think he'd do it as soon as they got married.

Yeah, Cercei.

She is really screwing things up (no surprise). She basically told Kevan to go to hell -- brilliant idea to tell the head of a major house, and her most natural ally, to **** off.

She is no alienating House Tyrell. Baratheon (Stannis) is already against her, Martell (Dorne) has her daughter as a hostage, and has no particular reason to love Lannisters (just the opposite really), the North is, first, greatly weakened due to the fall of House Stark, and second, really far away.

That leaves her with basically Petyr Baelish, currently and nominally running the Eyrie. That's basically it. Plus the king's own direct soldiers, etc.


Olenna Tyrell is in a ticklish spot. Cercei is behind it all, as she knows, but she wants to support the crown in the form of Tommen/Maegery, but not Cercei.

Yeah. I just figured that, after all this time (it's got to be at least several months, if not a year or two, i would think) of being married to marge, she would've turned him against his mother at least a little bit.

Side note on this plotline -- the books did a really good job of developing it a bit more than what the show has been able to do, largely due to time constraints. It was an interesting social commentary too.

The Faith Militant (the military arm of the church) had been banned a long time ago by the Targaryens because, as much as anythign else, they couldn't control it. In the aftermath of the economic devastation of the civil war, which greatly affected food and other supplies coming into King's Landing, and then the siege, widespread suffering, starvation, death, disease and devastation was the result. In their time of trouble, many turned to religion, and zealots and radicals became increasingly powerful within the church hierarchy.

And then, ultimately, as we've also seen in the show, Cercei allows the restoration of the Faith Militant.

yes, they are sort of terrible about timelines. The Eyrie to Winterfell is no joke, and then back all the way down to King's Landing. That's easily several months of travel, unless they were pushing horses pretty hard. Or even by ship from White Harbor to King's Landing. Any way you slice it, it's a long journey.

I really liked how Margaery went from King's Landing to get Lady Olenna, who came back to King's landing, in no time at all.


for reference, here is a map. Eyrie to Winterfell -- white area to DEEP inside the gray region. Then to King's Landing, which is in that orange section on the right.

And then Margaery/Lady Olenna, from King's Landing in the orange zone to deep inside the green zone of The Reach.

well....Theon did murder two innocent children, burn their corpses (at least I HOPE they were corpses when he burned them...but he's such a POS maybe not) and hang them up for all to see. think of the kids man....then you won't feel so bad for him.
I was actually thinking Theon was going to do something. especially after he'd just called himself by his own name for probably the first time since he became Reek. but alas no. the cooter is strong in this one!

as for the second bold....I know right! talk about going in dry. poor girl. he's such a dipshit he couldn't even get a good look at the fire crotch doing it that way. dumb ass!
