I wasn't comparing Lackey to Arietta. I was saying the chances of us winning agaisnt Arietta today is the same as the Cubs chance of winning tomorrow.

Cubs will be heavy dogs, Cards probably at -135 tomorrow.

But the Cubs were -230 today ... so ... that's disgusting for a postseason game.

Jake Arrieta, OTOH, appears to be on another plane of existence. Worse still is that the guy !@#$ing knows it. I know as a Cards fan I was supposed to hate Mark Prior because he's a Cub - I just couldn't do it. That guy walked around the mound like he'd strike you out and then **** your wife just for the hell of it...presuming that he'd lower himself to **** someone that would marry you. He just controlled the game.

Arrieta has that going right now. That guy is absolutely certain his going to wreck your soul on the mound and for the last 10 weeks, he's been right.

I've honestly never seen anything like it. Not only does he have the stuff, but, unlike Kershaw, he also has the mindset. He knows he's a ****ing badass, he knows he's going to win, he knows you can't hit him ... and he's right.

It's like Wade Davis, but starter format. If the Cards hit him, it's pure luck, because, no matter the count, he turns every hitter into a pure guess hitter ... doesn't matter if it's 0-2, or 3-1

I only saw it once, but his balance seemed off. It was on the 1-0 pitch to Holliday; he got his lower half out ahead of the top - kicked his leg way out there and it seemed to pull his top half across.

Odd balance from a guy that's appeared bulletproof for awhile.

And Heyward may have just missed his pitch...

The nearest I can remember is the summer 2005 - Chris Carpenter had a streak of about 20 starts where his ERA was below 1.50. Even when Carpenter was on, he carried himself like Arrieta is doing right now - just the lord of creation on the mound.

Comparing someone to vintage Carp is the highest compliment I can give a modern starter because Carpenter's bulldog mentality may be the most impressive thing I've seen in a decade. The guy just absolutely refused to ever cave in and was certain he'd beat you.

Arrieta looks like that but better.

That's a big time AB from a guy with some holes in his swing. Getting that run in with a nice easy stroke and putting the ball in play is damn impressive for a kid who's natural inclination is to swing hard in the hopes that he runs into one.

Well, Wacha's stuff seemed to actually sharpen up after he gave up the HR.

He can make himself a legend if he goes out there and makes this stand up.
