Absolutely correct. You are still not supposed to "speed" in the left lane. If you are going the speed limit and passing people on the right still you should stay in the left lane. Just because the people behind you in the left lane want to go faster doesn't mean you need to break the law or get over to the right to slow down to 15 MPH. You are correct and they are wrong.

It's a passing lane, not a "I wanna go the fastest" lane. There are only so many lanes they can pave, so at some point, the "I got here first" rules must take effect.

Isn't it obvious though when you're "passing" in the left lane and there's a train of cars behind you that it's not just some random asshole and you could pick it up a little? Some situational common sense should tell you what the flow of traffic is.

During rush hour, this is pretty much the truth.

This happens to me almost every day on the way to work. I stay in the left lane because it is typically running at 70-80 MPH. If I move over one lane into slower traffic then I am likely stuck there for a long time.

If I have room to get over to let them pass and can quickly get back over before I have to slow down, then I'll do that. Otherwise they can zig-zag their way through the slower cars to get wherever they are in such a damn hurry to get to.

This is pretty much what I do. I'll go 6 or 7 over, and if the road is clear then I'm in the right lane. If I'm passing cars, I'm in the left. If you want to go faster but I'm still passing cars, tough shit, I got there first. As soon as I'm done passing or there is a very big gap in the right so that I probably won't have to brake, I'll go to the right lane. If I somehow find myself next to someone going the same speed though and I'm no longer passing the car next to me, then I won't be a rolling roadblock, I'll just zoom ahead to clear the left if I don't see a cop.

If its a 3 lane road, I'll usually avoid the left lane if possible because the center lane is usually reasonable, but if all the other lanes have slow cars, I'm hitting the left lane whether the cars coming up behind in the left like it or not.

I'll speed up to find an opportunity to merge, flash the guy behind me a peace sign then get right back over. I'm a cool driver in that regard.

I want to know why so many truckers sit in that lane. **** those guys when I'm hauling across the country. Then I'm the asshole who passes him on his right. Some asshole brighted me for that. And why attempt to pass another truck on an incline when you are going literally 3 miles faster. Grinds my gears.

Most commercial trucks have max of 65 -70. Mine was 67.

Now, if you get behind someone who is only going 60-65, you want to get around them. If my max is only 67, it's gonna take a bit to get around them. Believe me, they're not doing that on purpose.

2mph may not seem like much, but when you're driving 10-11 hrs a day it adds up.

I think most people understand commercial vehicles can have some limitations most of those drivers are not the problem. Now bBeing stuck with two 18 wheelers going side by side for 5 miles down I-70 can be pretty annoying but, that is not typically from intentionally rude driving but a lack of ability to accelerate.
