Can Weddle replace Berry?

Weddle had a down season playing on a horrendous San Diego defensive roster but the man is a proven product and is hungry for a title. Berry on the other hand seems to be $$ driven and is showing no signs of giving us a home team discount with the rumors going around the NFL. I find that disappointing given how the organization stood by him during his illness. Despite being 'comeback player of the year' his game footage was actually quite mediocre with only 55 tackles, poor coverage of tight ends, and oftentimes late to help corners on deep routes.

For 2 years, $12 million...I can't help but think that Weddle would be a great fit in this defense* and gives us adequate time to draft a long term replacement. This also gives us the ability to retain Howard and spend money on either Sean Smith or a free agent corner/linebacker.

Weddle, Poe, Howard, Houston, Peters would be a helluva lineup!

Why is it always the same shit with bob.

Draft a player, he turns into an all pro, and when hes ready for a contract let him walk? **** it lets just draft an all pro safety every 3 years. Its easy, and if we miss, it doesnt matter because the guy isnt the QB of the defense or anything~

Your wrong, bob. You are always wrong, bob. You will always BE wrong, bob.

That might be a problem ever signing him because Berry's afraid as **** of horses!

As it stands now, he's got one less than your male lover Earl Thomas despite basically missing two entire seasons. In entire HOF careers guys like Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu and Brisn Dawkins finished with 5, 4, and 4.

Good safeties can be drafted and plugged in almost immediately. That's why their free agency contact ceilings are not as high as other positions

We need some good coverage players who can lock down the opposing team's prime time player

We kept him on the payroll and took a gamble going into 2015, thus we have done him favors rather than ridding him by placing him on NFI. If anything, he and his agent should realize that a team-friendly team is in place. It's gotta be a two-way road here. Can't reward a guy for excellent performance his first 3 years as he has had significant drop off the last 2 1/2.

Significant drop off.

You're a ****ing moron if you think 2010 and 2012 were Berry's best years as a player.

He just had his best year as a pro, his tackles were down because he played more deep safety, which is what everyone wanted, and played it at an all pro level and he......

I guess I don't get the big concern with cap space. It's not like this team needs to spend a bunch of money on other teams' free agents to fill holes. What positions currently need a huge upgrade? I feel like most the pieces are in place, it's just a matter of keeping them here and getting the most out of them.

So what are they saving cap space for again?
