Pro Bowl FS Reggie Nelson Still Available

Yeah, he's up there in age, but he tied with Marcus Peters for most INTs last year and made the Pro Bowl. No sign of slowing down. I suspect that he'd love playing with Eric Berry and Marcus Peters. Hell of a secondary. Time to kick the tires on a proven veteran leader that's still playing at a Pro Bowl level?

Interceptions - 8
Tackles - 52
Assisted Tackles - 25
Combined Tackles - 77

(Karmic twist: He recently said, “I love playing for KC.” when talking about DB coach, Kevin
Coyle.)

http://www.endzonescore.com/reggie-n...vailable/37087

The Cincinnati Bengals have, shockingly, allowed veteran free safety Reggie Nelson to remain on the free agent market for nearly three weeks now. Considering Nelson is coming off of a career year in which he led the NFL in interceptions, it is even more shocking that a team in need of a safety has not scooped him up.

The Bengals made the wise decision to re-sign young strong safety George Iloka very early in the free agent signing period, but 32-year-old Nelson still has a lot left in the tank.

The Bengals are definitely deep at defensive back, but Nelson provides a veteran presence that cannot be found just anywhere. He was a defensive captain for the Bengals this past season and was a certified ball hawk in the secondary from start to finish.

Several teams have been linked to Nelson, mostly because it is hard not to link a team to a star player who recently made the Pro Bowl, but the Bengals are surely still talking with him. It remains to be seen whether anything substantial will come of those talks, as the Bengals have been engaged in heavy discussions with other free agents this past week. However, they would be foolish to play a game of cat and mouse with Nelson.

Not only would it be extremely disrespectful to a player who has worn the Cincy stripes with pride for six seasons now, but it would also be too risky. There is no way that Reggie Nelson will remain unsigned for much longer, so the Bengals must make it a priority to bring him back to Cincinnati as soon as possible.

Why would you advocate replacing a very good safety, who's earring $5 million per, with an old **** like Nelson?

Can't compare the needs of the other 30 teams to the Chiefs. The Chiefs took a HUGE hit in their secondary this off-season.

You're too focused on age. I prefer to look at production. If I can get a Pro Bowl safety that had eight picks last year for a good price, then I don't care that he's 32 years old. We'll never know what the Chiefs might have signed him for, because Dorsey didn't pursue him. Pretty simple. I know you like to argue, but his stats are undeniable. And the fact that he wasn't pursued for a visit is discouraging. But hey, I'm still rooting for Dorsey and like many of the decisions he's made. Just not this one.

The wheels could fall off at any point, making him not even close to being worth the risk, nor is it even reasonable to bench Ron Parker.

He had more INT's last year than nearly his previous three seasons combined, making 2015 an anomaly.

There are a couple of things that you are just off base on.

First, we have no idea if Dorsey made any attempt.
He may have reached out to Nelson's agent to find out what Nelson would be looking for in terms of compensation, and found that to be a steeper price than the team would be willing to pay.

Second, age has to be a factor, because Nelson also might be looking for an unacceptable number of years on a contract.

Bottom line, you are making an assumption without any info.

It is you that's making the assumption. The Chiefs have not reached out to Nelson. And that comes from someone that knows the situation... and is not a Leawood real estate agent.

Nelson is a punishing tackler and the Chiefs D could certainly benefit from a boost to their mean streak.

I don't think he'd be a huge impact in regard to talent, but I'd like to see few more guys that play like him instead of choir boys.

Parker didn't even play safety last year and he played some corner the year before too.

We've had so many safeties around here the Parker has been more CB than S.

you don't know what he is yet at safety, although his man skills should be improved after the last couple of seasons
