Cards may end up again tops in NL pitching again, but still can't hit, and had no idea they couldn't field. Gonna be a long, painful season.

Wait....so if you put 45,000 people in an area, some of them are going to be idiots? Go !@#$ing figure.
Good on the Cards fans for booing the guy. His sub-.200 BA is just Heyward being Heyward but I'm sure he'll have yet another excuse for it. He always has an excuse for his struggles.

That sucks that some idiots had to go there. I don't think its Representative of the fan base but it reflects poorly on us all.

The list of guys I'd trade Reyes for is fairly short, but Arenado's on it. But the Cards and a whole lot of teams with more 'tradeable' farm systems than we have would all be in on him. The Cards best long-term assets are still far away. And if you want to start digging, even teams full of guys that are that far off have guys with higher ceilings. For instance, Boston's farm system is largely a fair distance away as well. That said, Moncada, Benitendi and Devers are a hell of a lot more attractive than what we could offer. You have to think the Bosox would give up Devers (Arenado replacement), Moncada and Espinoza in a heartbeat to get someone like Arenado in the fold. It's just a shitty reality the Cards find themselves in. Teams above them and below them are probably better situated going forward. The Cards are going to be stuck in the middle for the foreseeable future.

Either that or trade our entire farm system for Harper and then left him walk in free agency. Who's the short list you'd move him for? |

Hitters: Trout, Harper, Goldschmidt, Machado, Arenado, Correa, Stanton, Bryant, Rizzo, Betts. In other words, if you're older than 27, ya ain't on the list. Pitchers: Kershaw, Sale, Bumgarner, Fernandez, Syndergaard There are a few borderline guys as well that I'd consider but I also know damn well that I won't get anywhere near that kind of value for him nor should I. Probably the best pull you could get for Reyes right now would be Danny Salazar and even that is probably optimistic. And Salazar's trade value is somewhere in the Jorge Soler range; probably a little better than that but not a ton. But the problem is that we just aren't going to beat the Cubs by trying to out-Cub them. The only way we'll do it is to stack the rotation and the only way that's going to happen is if Reyes is the ace his stuff says he could be. If he isn't, we're boned either way. In other words, I'd never be able to put a trade together for him because he's just too important to what this team needs to do to try to win. Dealing him for a good player (not a great one) makes us more likely to be a .550 team instead of a .500 team but who really gives a shit if it makes you a one and done team in October? Gimme the staff with power arms and I'll see if I can't sneak into the WC role and try to steal a series here and there.
