I can't believe I'm sitting here reading people actually thinking Gronk isn't getting into the hall of fame.

Today.
They'd say what a talent cut short and show a million highlights of him dominating people and he'd be in the hall of fame. They may have the good grace to not get him in on first ballot. That's all. |

Only 8 tight ends in the hof and shannon sharpe is the only comparable one time era wise.
Twice the catches, twice the yards, a couple tds less. |

Gronk's had 4 seasons of 10+ TD catches in just 5 seasons.
For comparison, Gates had 4 in 13 seasons and Gonzalez had 3 in 17 seasons. |

Stats don't mean a damn thing here because when Gonzalez was in his prime the game didn't favor the passing game as it does now. Plus who's the all time leader in TDS catches and catches per game for TEs. It's TG

You've got a point about the passing league rule changes but even so Gronk is EASILY outpacing every other TE in this era. TG and Gates both played some time after the changes in '04 and couldn't put up numbers like Gronk. Of course TG's got the numbers, because he was great and, more importantly, he had the longevity. The guy played 17 seasons. Saying Gronk is a distraction is weak also. He's far from a distraction. |

In triple the time and catches. They average about the same numbers other than the tds. |

Who's in the argument for greatest TE ever? TG would probably be as close to the clearest consensus. And you're telling me Gronk averages about what he did BUT with a shit ton more TDs. Honestly, the only argument against Gronk is injuries (weak, honestly) and the fact that he played with Brady his entire career. We'll see what happens when Tom Shady starts to decline. Until then, put some respeck on this man's name. |

Sorry but Gronk and JJ need to do it for a few more years. Right now they have less time than Terrell Davis who was very good for only a few years and is not in the Hall.

Gale Sayers wasn't in the league long, IIRC.
TD's HOF-worthiness is debatable I'd say. |
