BTW, I'm glad Peterson was stingy with his 3rd round pick. Wesley was a fantastic pick.

Ditto!

That's the type of inside scoop that I want to know about.

I guess Gun really is influencing who we pick, or perhaps more importantly, it really is a group effort with no one person (Carl) dominating the selections!

That actually was pretty interesting. I'm still not sure who will be the better player, Deltha or Sly.

I thought one of the most interesting things was that KC never considered going after a Running Back. If Morris was gone, we were getting another offensive lineman. I love the offensive line and keeping it stocked with studs but I know many of you would've been outraged! Glad you enjoyed the article.

The Chiefs would have taken Chris Mcintosh before Shawn Alexander?
Is that true?....Joe

Nice job AZ. Thanks for that info. I always pick up a yearbook but won't have mine until I attend the Bills game, Nov 19th.

All I have to say about that article is:

1. It is a good thing that Morris was there because there would have been a lot of angry Chiefs fans out there.

2. The front office would have been kicking themselves Monday night if they had passed on Alexander, if he had been there.

3. Is Carl and company clever enough to mask their frustration at not having a shot at Alexander, in the hopes of disguising the true need for a premier RB for next year. Nah, couldn't be.

4. I am glad that we got Sly instead of Deltha. We need some offensive punch in KC for a chnage.

5. We did pretty good in the draft overall.

Awesome article! Eventhough the Chiefs weren't high on Alexander(why?), it is nice to know they liked Jamal Lewis. Nothing wrong with going for OL, but a T? I know it said Riley to G, but how about a pure G in the draft? Next year I expect to see a high draft pick for a G or DB. I'm glad Carl hordes his 3rd round picks...Greg Wesley will be a Pro-Bowler in a couple of years!

Lamar Jr:

Conventional thinking around the league is that you don't burn high draft choices on interior lineman, they can be had in later rounds. KC has certainly had luck in this regard. Tackles are harder to comeby and often warrent a 1st round pick. By considering a T, they must have thought Riley is not completely meeting their needs at RT. I think he has seemed pretty solid this season, so maybe they will change their minds. I would have hated to see them go with a T (again). My preferences for first round draft pick next year are: RB, DE, LB, and CB, in that order.

cdcox - I really like how upset Gun was if we would have taken another tackle, and I think that the fans would have felt the exact same way. It is kind of disgusting to think that it was even an option.

Jeff...you're going to have to clue me in on what you want me to comment on.

~First off, great info Azzzman. I'm just as much a geek of the behind the scenes draft stuff as you.
~I think Denver REACHED when they took Deltha.
~I'm surprised that KC would have taken Sly over Alexander. IMO finding a franchise RB is more difficult than finding a franchise WR.... I felt Alexander was the best RB in the draft... Morris reminded me of JJ Stokes.
~As for Oakland... I still feel we had targeted Julian Peterson a our top pick... We took Jano when SF picked Peterson.
~As for calling KC to move up, I don't think it was to get Sly.... I think it was to get Keith Bullock, who had slipped out of the projected top 15.
Our need for a pass rush OLB exceeded our need for a #2 WR, especially since Porter, Todd Pinkston, Dez White, Danny Farmer were still on the board.
~If KC had passed on Alexander to take an Olineman, your war room would be out of work next year.

JQ - I just wanted to see what you thought about them calling the Chiefs to see if they were wanting to move down. I wasn't looking for attacking or the like, just wanted to know. I agree, if we take a tackle over anyone I think most fans would have gone completely insane. I did find it funny to think that the Chiefs would trade down with them, isn't it almost unheard of to make a trade like this with someone in your own division. I was looking at it as more the fact that they thought they needed another player pretty bad. The Raiders book wouldn't have anything like this in there would it? It would be very interesting to hear.
