The Unpopular Thread

It ain't all Alex' fault. And it's not all Andy's fault. You don't want to hear that but it is true. We won our division with smoke and mirrors.

We had the worst running game and couldn't stop anyone from running on us. We are deficient on both lines and our running backs are below average. Had we made it past the Steelers, our train would have surely stopped in New England.

Only the top echelon of QB's could have overcome those deficiencies.

Truth is, we need help on the lines more than anything, followed by a quality running back. Spencer Ware has as much vision as Mr. Magoo. If somehow a top RB falls to us at 27, it will be tough to pass them up.

I want a QB as much as the next guy and I'm sure we'll get one SOMEWHERE in the draft, but we better address the lines too.

Bob Fescoe's a dumb ****ing homer and always have been. Five years ago he was defending Cassel.

The Chiefs top 3 non-QB rushers were MORE productive in 2016 than they were in 2015.

Even if you limit it to West and Ware:

2016 - 1214 yards
2015 - 1134 yards

It's obvious what the main problem is with this team, but there is not an easy fix.
The first thing you have to do is identify the problem. Most reasonable fans realize the problem is the OC and QB. Reid isn't going to give up playcalling and the franchise isn't going to take a QB in the first round, so the team is pretty much stuck putting lipstick on a pig.

At this point, Houston is already toast. Hali is coming around the end, but isn't close enough. Ford is coming up the middle, and would fall at Ben's feet.

Here's Berry shying back toward the middle of the field watching Ben's eyes, while Houston is getting burned behind him. Ford is just breaking through the middle of the line, Hali turning the corner.

That was a shit call by Sutton to line them up that way, and a failure by Berry trying to read the QB instead of helping out one of the worst matchups in the entire playoffs.

Show the entire play. Here:

Ford went outside to draw the LG to open the middle. Tamba and Ramik beat the C (Pouncey) on the blitz. It was 2v1 up the middle and Tamba/Ramik were pushed and caught each other's legs.

You're right that Berry was a disaster in coverage. He helps Houston and it's probably a failed attempt by the Steelers.

This was 1 of roughly 50 examples of poor execution. This should have been a sack.

It was one of the few times they actually pressured Ben.

I read Hali only had 9 snaps all game. I know he's lost a lot of steam, but I'm a bit surprised (assuming what I read is correct) by the lack of playing time, especially since Ford and Houston weren't generating pressure.

You want to run a West Coast offense? You need two things: Good Guards, Good QB. Chief have neither. Figure it out.

Not too worried about the defense if Poe and Berry are back. After re-signing or replacing those guys, pretty much only need a good run-defending ILB.

All good DC's in the playoffs are going to minimize the deep ball. I bet the Pats play Pitt very similarly to how KC played them - focus on taking Brown out and force Pitt to beat you with the run game. At the end of the day Pitt beat KC because they could run and knew that KC couldn't even match them when they settled for 3s. I don't think the running game is nearly as dead as you think. That's what makes NE so dangerous as well, they can do both.

We focused on taking Brown out?

Kind of agree on how NE will handle PIT's offense. Butler will cover Brown. They'll focus on not breaking as usual. They'll key on the run. I think NE is going to destroy Pittsburgh's defense. Brady will not miss all those wide open crossing routes like we saw in the KC game. Pittsburgh's D gives that up again, NE is going to torch them.

Sounds like they have their own version of 'hidden touchdowns.' Rapist just hides them in the running game in the form of FGs.
