The Bears won today and had 7 total passing attempts?

What's the story there? I had the game on in the background today and it didn't seem like there was a hurricane in the area or other weather stuff. Was it strategy, an anomaly, or something more sinister?

(I just added that sinister part for dramatic effect.)

I guess they got a couple of defensive touchdowns early, so maybe they were trying to protect a lead, but it seems like you'd have to pass more than that even if you're crawling into some sort of Galapagos turtle shell.

They had a couple of defensive touchdowns and they were protecting the lead. Howard was getting the yardage so passing wasn't all that necessary. It looked like Howard was running against the Chiefs' defense out there.

If it looked like the Chiefs' run defense, I guess that's all the explanation I need.

The Bears' defense was pretty stingy too, so that made punting a more acceptable option, I guess.

I don't think you watched this game at all. Howard was contained. Panthers held the ball forever and managed to **** it up each time.

Reminds me of that Caleb Hanie / Tyler Palko faceoff game in 2011. I believe the Chiefs got a kick return TD, and it was all they needed to beat the Bears 7-0.

And that's how even Tyler ****ing Palko was able to get a win as Chiefs QB, beating out former franchise hero Brodie Croyle.

Now that I look at the box score, it doesn't really look like Howard ran that well, but it seemed like he was getting good yardage. I guess I wasn't watching closely enough.

I'm curious about the last time that a team had 7 or fewer passing attempts in a game. It has to be really rare.

I would bet a few Broncos games with Tebow at QB came close.

First downs were 20-5 in Carolina's favor.

lol, you're right that my description makes it sound like I didn't watch it. I was watching two games on two screens and I was mainly following that one for Cam Newton's fantasy performance and he was really frustrating me with stalled drives.

Rain Man, disregard my pathetic report.

I watched part of this - the Bears defense was amazing. Brutal. Relentless. They tore through Carolina's line like it was tissue paper, harassed Newton all day, tackled well, knocked balls away deep. In short, it was like the exact ****ing opposite our defense.

It's like they weren't even playing the same sport.

If we had that defense, we'd never lose. Ever. Of course, if the Bears had our defense, they'd lose 70-0 every week.

Instead of drafting a top five QB, it sounds like the Bears should have drafted a top-five punter. It would mesh better with their strategy.

The irony is that I had the game on myself, but I was doing work stuff at the same time and I wasn't paying attention because, you know, it was the Panthers and the Bears. I had no idea that anything out of the ordinary was going on.
