ESPN predicts Smith to Broncos in 2020

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...l-team-2020-qb

Quote:
Denver Broncos

2020 QB: Alex Smith

Primary QB from 2014-16: Peyton Manning
Total team QBR 2014: 72.1 | 2015: 49.0 | 2016: 46.0

When the Chiefs let Smith walk after 2019, the Broncos (still vainly attempting to replace Peyton Manning with Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, Paxton Lynch and 2018 draft pick Luke Falk) snatch him up to see what he has left at age 36.
However....

Quote:
Kansas City Chiefs

2020 QB: Patrick Mahomes II

Primary QB from 2014-16: Alex Smith
Total team QBR 2014: 50.1 | 2015: 60.8 | 2016: 58.0

The Chiefs keep Smith after he leads them to a Super Bowl LII win over Philly, but Mahomes takes over midway through 2018 when the Smith magic fades. Mahomes dazzles with big plays and frustrates with big INTs. As for Smith? Read on!

Pretty stupid article really. Mostly baseless predictions just for the sake of making predictions.

The only reason to keep Smith next year if we get to, or win the SB, is if you think he could do it again the next year. I don't think our window is even still open this year as bad as our defense is now. Next year will be even worse losing veterans on defense and having to rebuild that side of the ball. Just get some picks for him and gain the cap space to help accelerate the defensive rebuild. It would be so dumb to keep him around for 2018 given the type of team we will be next year.

I bet The Ravens are glad they gave the bank to Joe Flacco after he won the SuperBowl.

Unless it's elite rare talent like Brady, Rodgers, Manning, etc... you don't destroy your salary cap with a reward to a mediocre QB who happened to be a part of a team that won a championship.

If Alex wins a superbowl, he's going in the same category as Dilfer, Rypien, McMahon, Hostetler, Johnson, and Dilfer.

Indeed. But we'll take 2 1sts and a 2nd for him. Or even the other way around. I wonder how he'll like Cleveland?

So what team is going to let him go in 2020 so he can go to Denver? KC is releasing him at the end of this season.
