Paid Time Off from work. How is yours awarded?

I am curious about the number of days your employer awards as paid time off each year. Our company is currently being bought out and the new owners are suggesting they may cut our PTO time as it's "much" too generous and not in line with most companies.

Are your PTO and sick days separate, or the same? Our current system lumps all our paid time of together so you can use it how you need.

Ours is a ramping system where new employees get 15 days (3 weeks) per year, ramping up to 5+ years of service where you are awarded between 25-28 days (5-5.5 weeks) per year. I've been with the company six years so I am maxing out yearly PTO. They are considering capping us at 18 days.

We also get 6 paid holidays per year.

Tell me how your employer treats and awards PTO.

I enjoy the offseason and the life event threads here at CP.

Thanks.

1-5 years get 5 sick days and 2 weeks vacation
5-12 years get 5 sick days and 3 weeks vacation
12-20 years get 5 sick days and 4 weeks vacation
20-25 years get 5 sick days and 5 weeks vacation
25+ years get 5 sick days and 6 weeks vacation

Everybody gets 13 paid holiday days and 1 floating holiday.

Anyone in any job who needs more than 5 sick days a year should just be taken out to the pasture and shot.

Ok mine might be what my friends call "ridiculous" as I am employed by our State Govt. and I have 29 years in.
Anyway I get 25 days vacation, 25 sick days and 3 "personal" days.

The personal days all need to be used within the year and you can only carry over a years worth of vacation (25 days for me) the sick time you keep rolling over and you can cash it out when you retire/leave although you only get .50 cents on the dollar.

Currently I need to use 9 days combined vacation and personal time this month or I lose it.

I make my own hours and try to make enough to not work half the year. It's more like how much time I make to work.

I don't get paid time off, vacation or holiday pay. Self employed contractors don't get such benefits. But I make more money than I did when I had a job, so when I want or need time off, I just don't take any work for those days. Thanksgiving week, I worked Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and still pulled $1200 bucks. That was a 55 hour week at my old job.

It's pretty amazing.
So they pay you when you take time off and whenever you want?

Sounds fishy.

Although if you're a good employee who comes to work a lot, you're likely getting hosed with that setup.

My wife is a Director at a massive media firm and she receives a total of 45 days off per year, which includes holidays, vacation, sick days, personal days, etc.

I'm self-employed and can take off however many days per year that I'd like, although I generally work all throughout the year (and on weekends). I made a promise to my family not to work during our children's holiday break last year (December 15th - January 3rd) and will do the same this year.

I'm a University of California faculty member with a full-year appointment, which is standard in the medical school, as opposed to the 9-month "academic year" appointments that are more common for most of the professors on campus. We accrue two days of vacation for each month of work, so I get 24 vacation days a year. Vacation hours can accumulate up to twice the yearly accrual rate, or 48 days. I'm at the limit now, so I am not accumulating vacation days for the hours I put in when I'm at the limit. (This gives me an incentive to take vacation days.)

We also get about 13 holidays a year, pretty much all of the standard ones.
I'm not sure how my sick leave accrual works. I'm pretty sure that faculty are entitled to family and medical leave, but that we are not entitled to the usual sick leave that staff get. I believe that staff (but not faculty) accrue 1 sick day for each month of work, along with their staff-specific vacation accruals, which depend on their tenure with the university. I somehow have about 11 days of accrued sick leave, which I must have acquired when I was a staff member, before joining the faculty.

I work from home, and I'm salaried, so it's pretty irrelevant.

I got a sweet deal going.
