I want the Mahomes era to start as much as anyone, but I am not interested in spoiling it because of impatience.

Given Reid clearly had no intention of putting him in as the starter this year, sure would have been nice for him to get the phantom injury to IR treatment and make this a non-issue.

Since Bray doesn't even dress out, Mahomes would be your answer. And assuming Mahomes leads the team to victory, I kind of doubt he would then bench Mahomes for Bray.

How is it spoiling it though? Even though he sucked last year, I would argue that Goff playing 7 games in St. Louis greatly helped him with experience heading into this season. 1 game isn't the same as 7 games, but I still think it would be greatly beneficial for him to see some live game action.

McVay retained the running backs coach and an offensive assistant from Fisher's staff.

It has nothing to do with the system. Just live game action is a huge learning experience. Houston might fire O'Brien. Do you really think Watson will have gained nothing from his experience this year just because he might be in a new offense?
