Why do you live where you live?

This is about your general community or area, not about your specific house. Think of it as the metro area you live in, or the county you live in.

Poll coming as soon as I file of change of address form for it.

For me, I live in Denver because I got a job here. I didn't know anyone here and had never seen the city. However, I had always thought it would be a good place to live. My wife and I were generally targeting the region of the US that was west of the Austin-Minneapolis line, and generally excluding the Pacific coast states (per my wife's preference on the latter). A job came through in Denver and we jumped on it. That was 25 years ago, so obviously it was a good outcome.

I deliberately choose to go to a California school because I thought I would enjoy living in CA. Then I randomly lucked into a job that I liked and have stayed put ever since.

I'm happy with the decision. Although I would have also liked to live in the southwest. Somewhere in the Albuquerque to Moab region.

Always wanted to live here. I am in a rain forest with access to the bay area and all it offers. Ride dirt bikes, shoot guns whatever. Pretty awesome place

The cost of living is cheaper on the panhandle

Official population is around 50k, but with surrounding towns using it as a hub, plus the military installations, it probably feels more like a town of 100k or so... plenty big enough for me

Incredible freshwater fishing, and of course ocean fishing, I'd be in fisherman heaven... and just the whole beach lifestyle really, love it

Theres nothing I love more than a beachside bar

Rock on brotha.... He's got Eglin on the other side of the bay (he's ex-AF), so he's giddy about that, but he likes all that sand stuff too, so, like you, he's giddy..

How much is airfare? Is it worth the cost of maybe 4 or 6 trips a year to live in Pensacola? It's not that much money compared to 365 days of living.

As I recall there was a great Irish Pub (Kilkenny's) down in a trendy (thrift shop) part of the city and a clubbing scene just a few blocks outside of downtown. What I think of when Tulsa is mentioned is an experience in a Sheridan bar late at night that legends are made of....Three gals and a comped room...

Who the **** wants to summer in KC? In San Diego you can jog through a sprinkler in Mission Bay Park and within a minute be dry again, KC you would become a moving steam sauna.

I've always been curious about northern California (not SF, but your area and further). I've never had an excuse to go there, but I want to check it out. It seems like it would be really nice, and I'm curious why it's not way more developed. It seems like there should be a big city somewhere between SF and Portland. Are there no natural harbors at all?

Dang, I'm looking at the harbor for Eureka and it's huge. Why is Eureka not a city of a million people?

When it was time to rotate to shore duty from sea duty, I asked the detailer what the closest base was he had to Missouri. He said either Great Lakes, IL (suburban Chicago) or Memphis. My hometown is in northern Missouri, so I picked Great Lakes.

Yay.

I deal with 100 + year old houses where the HOA are into keeping it the way it was...

In KC Hyde Park HOA got carried away making rental properties return to single family dwellings just like in the Valentine/ Roanoke area.

Screw HOA's.

Never heard of one that anyone liked yet they govern almost 90% of every new development in the US.

My intention was that you live there and fly back to western Illinois a few times per year.

But mom is still here, and she doesnt really have anyone to help with things... but when she passes, I could see making the move
