Deon Yelder!!

I'm surprised he's barely been talked about tbh. Sunday was the first time he caught passes in the NFL and imo those two catches were very good indeed. The fact that Pat had the confidence to target him must also be a big boost for the kid. It's gonna be interesting to see if Andy decides to get him more involved In the next few games.

But when you watch him actually running his routes pre-catch or when he catches a ball in stride he still looks plenty quick for a big man. Look at the route he ran to beat the defender for his touchdown against the raiders a couple of weeks ago as an example. He juked the shit out of him and beat his man like a boss.
This. To me it looks like he runs more cautiously when he knows he's going to be hit. But runs full speed running routes or when he's truly trying to outrun someone

When he catches the ball in the middle of the field and know he'll probably get hit soon, he tends to not run as aggressive or as fast as he used to. Whatever though, what he does is still effective and is only going to prolong his career so I'm all for it.

So why can't we get that kind of drive blocking between the 20s?

That's a genuinely good run rep. So was the Williams TD. But this run blocking fails horrifically far too often when they're trying to establish the run earlier in drives/games.

The only thing that bothers me about Yelder is that for some reason, he was BEHIND Bell on the depth chart. I view Bell as a horrible TE (hopefully not on the team next year), and to think that Yelder is worse, staggers the imagination.

Hopefully, our fine coaching staff just got it wrong and/or Yelder has improved. But, if he's truly worse than Bell, I want no part of him.

I don't view Bell as horrible but he needs to work on catching the ball. And I agree with wanting Yelder to be the starter. That is, as long as he doesn't cough it up like on Monday night.

I assumed he was behind due to injury, but I could be wrong.

They zone blocked that one. I have a theory about it, not sure it holds water though.

For the past few years, hell maybe since Andy got here, they've come out early and tried to be this intricate man blocking team, with pulls and whatever.

Halfway thru each year, they simplify and go to a more ZBS and start having more success.

Seriously, watch how many times we try to run this pulling guard, etc, stuff. It doesn't seem to work.
