Doesn't help much, but at least Bob Dole doesn't feel as bad about bitching about those calls...

It doesn't say much for the NFL Officiating staff that the league has apologized so much this year for blown calls.
I will admit that the call on Kauffman in Oaktown probably would not have changed the outcome of the game since the Raiders pretty much moved the ball on us at will that day. BUT, the other 3 games were decided by less than a touchdown and were at VERY critical junctures in the game. Which brings to mind an interesting question..... If we had gotten the calls in those games and won every one of them, would all of us still be calling for Gunther and Carl's head on a platter? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm! mark ************ [This message has been edited by Mark Kilgore (edited 12-02-2000).] |

Not that it would have changed the eventual outcome (as you state), but that one specifically had a huge "momentum impact." Had the successful "stuff" that was negated by the idiots in stripes happened, and we had actually managed to move the ball downfield, who knows what would have happened the rest of the day.

Not to mention the non-call on the "I'll shove off the defensive back and not manage to get both feet down in-bounds but will get the TD anyway" that was replayed about 5,000 times on ESPN as a highlight. (Minus any commentary.)
Talk about rubbing salt in an open wound. |

Bob:
Do you think we would all be calling for Gunther's head if we had one 3 of those 4 games? mark ********* ------------------ Kilgore is a noun, not a verb.. |

Mark,
I don't think that most would be calling for MaGoo's head, or even the unbalanced Stooge's head (Raye). Stock and Spurt would probably still be the focus of many fans' ire. But the fact remains, MaGoo is a moron, and a winning season would mean that he would be exposed for the moron is later, rather than sooner. the milkman can now hope to look to moron free future |

Bob Dole has a hard time answering that objectively. Bob Dole's attitude toward the Chiefs would probably be much better than it is now, which would probably lead to less scrutiny of Gunther's every move. That said, probably not.
Until the past few games (and subsequent idiotic comments), Bob Dole was willing to give Gunther the benefit of the doubt and call for replacing the Three Stooges and giving Gunther another year. After watching stupid decisions (not going for 2 when down by 2) and reading moronic statements week in and week out (Donell isn't the problem...), Bob Dole isn't so sure Gunther should be given another year. |

I thought they should get rid of him after the Titans game. Also, as last year, he did not game plan for the Colts either. If we were now, even 7-5, I am sure there would be less talk of getting rid of him, but I, for one, would still be in favor of it.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds. 6-10 or worse could lead to a major house cleaning. Are you reading this Carl?
