Let's talk about the Bengals

A sneaky big game in the AFC, and probably our toughest game left before playoff time.

Talk about it here

This argument about not having played anybody is lame. Not sure why people still make those comments. Not like we've played against a prime Manning, Brady, Favre, and Montana every game this year.
Give me a break. Herbert’s clearly a top 5 QB. Carr is pretty good, Brady is still good, Murray is talented. Jimmy G is top 5 in QB rating and has a loaded roster. Lawrence is top 10ish in QB rating. KC’s played a solid QB every week but 2-3. There’s no comparison to the Bengals.

Herberts losing record doesn't feel like top 5 qb material.

Yeah, on one hand, "haven't played anyone" doesn't mean a whole lot in the NFL... everyone usually only plays a couple somebodys per season, maybe 3 or 4. And this year, "someone" is basically Mahomes or Allen.

OTOH, the list of QBs the Bengals have played and the list they've beaten is seriously terrible. Really, really bad.

If you ever make chili that tastes like that mess, throw it out.

"What if we take chili, dump some cinnamon in it and then make it runny?"

Blech - that stuff is ass.

Despite this, they’re still middle of the pack in coverage and near the bottom of the league in pass rush.

Chiefs are the best passing attack in the league with one of the best OLs. Bengals haven’t seen a challenge even close to this all year.

And the Bengals OL is still trash.

That said - Burrow is really good against the blitz and we don't get a ton of pressure from our front 4.

So, just as we said TWICE last year, it's a game where the DL absolutely has to make a difference. Karlaftis, Jones, Saunders and Clark need to get themselves in the box score somehow.

They've gotta make things uncomfortable for Burrow without sending extra guys because he handles the blitz just like you're taught. And when he does it, those WRs can get the ball in space and make a big play out of it.

C'mon DL - do your thing.

Take away two close losses to Mahomes and he's 6-3 this year, with the most depleted roster in the league and a trash defense. Seems like top 5 material to me.

I think the key for me is to make sure that the Bengals (as a bad rushing team) remain a bad rushing team this week.

Don’t let 1st and 10 turn into 2nd and 2 on the ground. Stuff that run and force them to beat you through the air. Keep them one dimensional, so the pass rush can pin their ears back and go. Burrow can beat the blitz on occasion, but put him in position to need to keep beating it because he’s in 2nd and 3rd and long situations repeatedly.

I trust Bolton and Gay in this one. Big week for them.
