Discussion: Who should we consider for our first rd pick?

It’s that time fellas! Little over 3 weeks out and it’s in our house!

I’ll put 2 options here.

1. Who do we pick if we sign a vet WR (Hopkins?) before the draft.

2 who do we pick if we don’t sign anyone else before the draft.

Who ya got?

A solid RT is also essential for protecting your most valuable investment. The pocket was collapsed WAY too often since Schwartz left. Two good OTs help lesser WRs get open...and that is likely what we will have in 2023

Locking down RT with a legit player that fits your ZBS isn’t easy. Tackles aren’t just available easily. These guys aren’t available often really at all. And Harrison can play LT in the event of injury or if Taylor crashes and burns. I don’t think people get how valuable that is.

The fact is that every SB has the best pass rush. 49ers in 2019, Bucs in 2020, Rams in 2021 and then the Eagles in 2022.

We saw what Mahomes can do to a defense with time. We also saw what he can do with no time at all against the Bucs.

This isn’t hard. If Anton Harrison is available, he’s a smart pick

If Harrison is there, you could make a case for him being BPA, IF he's there.

We're not going to draft a RT in round 1 with the other needs on the team and the way this draft stacks.

People need to get over this. The Chiefs believe they filled the need by signing Taylor to a big contract. They went all season last year with Wiley. They're not going to spend $80M on one tackle and draft another one in the first round.

If the Chiefs take an OT first it's because he's graded as far and away the best player on the board.

A big issue people should be noticing after the last year is how many times Mahomes hit the top of his drop and no one was open or his scrambling was because no one could beat coverage, pressure isn't all about the OL, sacks happen when guys can't get open.

Yep. Defenses adjusted to the Hill stuff by using more and more zone. The WR corps last year was built to counter that but by the end of the year, it was fairly obvious that while the guys they had could beat zone coverage, there wasn't anybody really that could beat man coverage. We need more WR's in a bad, bad way.

0 fear of big plays. Watson and MVS run fast sure but they convert those plays less than 40% of the time.

The Chiefs have visted with SEVEN LT's during this draft process, with Anton Harrison being in KC TODAY. Imo it is a clear indication that they would be prepared to take a LT in the first round and keep Taylor at RT otherwise there would be no point whatsoever talking to so many LT's. If Broderick Jones, Anton Harrison or Darnell Wright (who can also play LT) are there at 31 that will be the pick I think.

They've visited with 3 safeties and 6 CB's. They've also had visits with guys that won't even be 1st rounders. It's called due diligence. It doesn't indicate in any way how they intend to actually use their 1st round pick.

They just let their two starting tackles leave and have a grand total of two tackles on the roster who have started games in the league and none of them have played LT. Due diligence yes but the writing is clearly on the wall. There is no way Jones, Harrison or Wright is not picked at 31 if they are there imo. It makes too much sense.

It makes too much sense for most Chiefs fans. Most Chiefs fans are still buried in a 90's mentality.

Make no mistake about it, the Chiefs did not give Taylor $80M to play RT.

Right?

They have exactly ONE WR on the roster with actual experience and that guy is MVS, who is probably a 3rd or 4th option (when including Kelce) on this team.

If the tackle cupboard is bare, the WR cupboard is smashed to pieces and laying on the kitchen floor.

I can't figure out the group who thinks we are ok at WR because we did it with a skeleton crew to an extent and won a SB last year, yet think we have to have this iron clad OL when we won it last year with iffy tackles

How is it ok for one and not hte other?

It's not. It's an obvious double-standard.
