Who is the QB2 for the 2024 season?

Gabbert hasn't given us any Henne type moments. In fact... it's been the opposite. I think we can all agree that Gabbert should be a one and done here in KC which means we need a new guy.

As always... you are the GM, what are you gonna do?

Seek out a veteran FA with starter experience like (but not limited to):

Teddy Bridgewater
Gardner Minshew
Carson Wentz
Mason Rudolph

Are we looking at a 5-7th round pick and develop him, while praying Mahomes doesn't go down, like:

Spencer Rattler - South Carolina (if he falls)
Joe Milton - Tennessee (if he falls)
Michael Pratt - Tulane
Jack Plummer - Arizona

Do you promote from within:

Chris Oladokun - Practice Squad
Ian Book - Reserves

Or... do you go wild:

Reach out to the Jets and ask permission to work out a restructuring of his $11m cap hit in 2024 over 3 seasons in a reclamation project of someone extremely talented that went into a horrible situation.

Perhaps we get lucky and they would be interested in MVS and it would be a wash (cap wise) for 2024 if we can't sign him longer term at a more reasonable rate. The Jets owner wants Wilson gone as much as I want MVS gone. He has to know he isn't gonna get shit for Wilson after bashing him in the media.

I think its time to bring in a rookie with some upside.. have him compete with Oludokun and whomever.

If Olu is anything like what they thought, he'll be firmly in the conversation.

If your starting QB goes down for 4 games... you need a guy in place who can at least go 2-2. Gabbert isn't that guy.

I mean, he was 1-0 THIS season with Hardmann as his #1 and Perine in the backfield.

We probably could have picked Mayfield out of the trash heap last year. There's a backup I wouldn't mind having.

Andy values consistency. I don't see any reason to believe Gabbert won't be back.

Gonna disagree with you on Matt Moore. He was already very good before he ever came to KC. He should have never been removed as QB1 for the Dolphins when they drafted that receiver from Texas A&M and installed him as QB (Tannehill). Moore was better than Henne in Miami and should have also started over him during their mutual time as Dolphins. He remained better than Henne when they were both in KC.

He was a Chief for one season at age 35. Won both his starts while Mahomes was out injured, but one of those wins was actually a loss due to a Shady McCoy fumble that cost the game. The win he did secure proved crucial to the Super Bowl win because if that was a loss, the Chiefs don't get a bye.

Reid didn't work any magic with him and didn't transform him. He was already a stud. Fearless player too - I don't think I've seen a QB less afraid of taking a huge hit while barely getting a pass away.

He was an absolute baller at Oregon State during his time in college. Before the Beavers, he was the starting QB for UCLA as a true freshman. He was also drafted as a pitcher by the Angels out of high school but chose the football route instead. Lucky for us.

Reid has plenty of accolades to point to, but developing Moore really isn't one of them.

who has earned the job as QB #2 under Andy Reid

The only ones I can think of atm

Nick Foles - remember him playing for us, but that's about it.

Chase Daniel - we liked Chase, he was a solid backup

Patrick Mahomes - of course for just his rookie season and played very well in his 1 start

Giga Chad Henne - the best backup ever!

Matt Moore - liked him, I think he was called up when Mahomes got injured on that sneak because Henne was hurt or something?

Blaine Gabbert - meh

who else was there?

Agreed. Having a very difficult schedule every year(I don't mind of course - like picking at the very bottom of the first rd every year) you need someone like a Minchew you can come in and swing their brass balls successfully for that 4 game period.
