I don't speak for every teacher because I know some teachers need shot. I speak for myself.
I will leave you all with this. This is what I carry in my heart each and every day I am in the classroom. My first year of teaching, we had a bastard for a teacher that prided himself of his horrible ways. One day, he caught a kid cheating on a test (this kid was in foster care because his parents didn't want him) Granted he wasn't an angel, but what happened next he did not deserve. The teacher picked up his test, ripped it up in front of the whole class ridiculed him in front of everyone and told him he was worthless. That night that kid shot himself. NOw I am sure that it was not all because of class, but you can't tell me it was not a big part. This is what I carry in my heart each and every day. NO student of mine will ever be able to say that I in anyway caused him/her to feel worthless. Pathetic...I think not. Think about it. We Parents are the ones that are pathetic. audious... dawsonpam@hotmail.com [This message has been edited by dawsonpa (edited 11-05-2000).] |

One more thing.
Maddog, observing a classroom and teachers is not the same as being in the classroom alone with the students. One is not the other. Trust me. Substitute. You'll see |

Pam - philosophical and political arguements are never a reason to run from the BB, they should not be taken personally, I know it is harder when it is about your choice of careers.

It is more of a refusal on other's parts to admit they are way over inflated and they refuse to even consider any other thought. Then they resort to name calling and attacking what I do for a living.
That in my book is abuse I DON'T ask for or need. |

Okay,
I will just stop posting on political and other topics that no one wants to see alternate view points on. I still think some on here are big windbags and have no clue. |

Pam,
Before you go, I should let you know that i'm on your side. I know teachers get a bad rap. It's a tough job, and everyone thinks they know how to do it. Sounds like your well liked by your students. Hang in there...... |

Pam,
I know that it has already been said...but you get what you pay for. I have 5 friends who starting teaching right after college. Only one of them is still a teacher. The rest all left for higher paying jobs. Few people have the dedication to stay a teacher, especially when the pay is so low compared to the other opportunities in today's booming economy. I do think that the standards have dropped considerably for teachers but in a free market economy... if you want better people than you have to be willing to pay for them. Right now, states aren't willing to pay for them and we are lucky to have a few that are good, work hard and stick with the profession because of their convictions and ideals. Personally, I don't understand it... but I guess the world needs suckers too.
