I can't believe Habitat for Humanity and some of the others skim so much money off the top. |

Amazing how people try to make a buck off of tragedies isn't it?
I understand a little bit for administrative expenses in getting the aid to the people, but it looks like the majority of that list are keeping too much $ for themselves.

Can't remember which off the top of my head today, but it was either the Red Cross or Salvation Army that took in A LOT of money for the families of the emergency workers that died in the 9/11 attacks, then didn't manage to get the $ to the families.

Obviously there are some charities that abuse the donated dollars, and their boardmembers make mor than I ever will, but before you jump to conclusions I am sure you could contact the organization and get a break down as to what their admin cost go to. For Habitat for Humanity, does that 3% help run their Habitat Restore's retail center and their projects to deconstruct rather than demolish? If so the 3% invested greatly outweighs the benifits of spending the cash.

I really don't trust any charities that are big pseudo-corporations. I like charities like the one Dennis Leary runs out of Boston to help out families of firefighters that died in the line of duty. Back when like 12 firemen died in a big fire in Boston, he raised a bunch of money and took 100% of the money, divided it by 12 and sent each family a check for their twelfth.
I was donating a bunch of stuff to Goodwill recently and they wouldn't take an old bedside table I had because they thought they'd have trouble selling it in their store. It was perfectly functional except the top was scraped up pretty bad, but considering I used cinderblocks as bedside tables in college, it was a perfectly good table. So basically unless they could make a buck selling it, they didn't want it so my stuff will no longer go to them. I'd almost rather throw it in the trash than give it to someone trying to make a profit from it. |

My point was the misappropriation of the funds that were given. If they were given $ to give to those families, those families should have recieved what was given, not what the organization thinks they deserve.
