It all sounds good Coogs, but quite frankly, even if Davis wasn't on their radar along with DJ, Carl wouldn't have had the ammo to trade up for DJ anyway.
If you want to give him props, then give him props for having 2 of the better defenders on the radar, rather than some project.

I think KC had more than just Davis and Johnson on their board. I'm sure they also had the top 3 CBs. Had Johnson been taken, I'm not sure what they would have done since Davis and all 3 DBs were taken.
Personally, I can't give Peterson too much credit for not fucking up the most obvious draft choice that he's ever had in his life.

We only drafted DJ because he fell in our lap. To read any more into it is speculation.

Credit for what? Not trading down to the Packers spot and getting quantity over quality? Credit for taking a top 10 pick who slid to 15? The Chiefs were well situated for getting an impact player at 15.
I'm just thankful as all hell that the Panthers took Davis or else the Chiefs would have a much bigger project to develop this offseason. I'll take the All American who played the position for 4 years over the guy who played it 4 months. I also want to know which dipshit scout/coach/GM had James as a top three consideration with Davis and Johnson. I thank Peterson for having the sack to correct his massive misfire of the 2004 offseason. Good job squeezing 3 Pro-Bowl caliber free agents/drafts under the cap, good job giving up the 2nd round pick and good job not screwing up the 1st round of the draft.

This was a no-brainer pick and they almost ****ed it up by trading down.

Ill tell you what I give Carl credit for.
Setting his ego aside, and dealing the #2 to Miami to get Patrick Surtain. The pickup of Surtain was the biggest impact in this draft. If Carl would have just kept the round 2 pick for spite, and drafted in his normal fashion just to prove a point that the fans/media dont dictate what he does, it could have been a disaster. Then, not only did he deal the 2, he paid Surtain what he was worth, and didnt string it all out any longer with lowball BS. Having Surtain onboard really took the sting out of those 3 corners being drafted in the top 10, thats for sure. Because of the trade, we were able to take Johnson at 15, and rest easy with the fact that we werent sacrificing the secondary for help on the front 7.

I still think the whole trading down thing is overblown. I don't think it's any big deal to at least answer the phones and listen to offers of people who want to trade down, you never know when somebody is going to make a dumb trade and give you too much. You'd never get any deals done if you didn't. Somehow this is got turned into not being interested. Carl's bullheaded.. he traded out of the first round last year for just a 4th or 5th round pick. If he wants to trade down, he will.
