And here I thought this was going to be another porn thread (Kobe uses the spurs indeed - ride 'er cowboy! Yeeehaaawww!)...
The only thing I like about the NBA playoffs is that it means the p!ss-poor excuse for a professional sport will soon be over for the year (fianlly). |

Milkman,
Amen to that! BTW, what did the announcers say at the beginning of the game about Robinson not signing an autograph for Shaq when he was a kid? I didn't know if I heard it right or not? I love Phil saying that the Championship the Spurs won in 99 that the only reason they won it was because the him and co. weren't in the league, and that theirs an asteris' (sp?) by that championship. :D

Why don't you like the NBA, Kyle? Too fast for ya? :)
kidding. I don't know why people don't like it, its WAY better than college basketball, IMO. But I respect your opinion, and thats that.

I don't like the players nor the way the game is played. Call me old-fashioned, but basketball is about strategy as much as any other team sport, and the NBA today has very little to offer in that realm. Watching 5 guys play 1-on-1 75% of the time is not something that interests me very much.
Like they say, to each his own. More power to you if you like it. |

Shaq has, according to sports talk radio, described in his book an incident that occurred while he was in high school. He went to an appearence by Robinson, and was blown off by him when he was asked by Shaq for his autograph.
I think it's also in this book that Shaq calls the Spurs "soft, and they play like a WNBA team. Seems like plenty of bullitin board material, yet the Spurs still couldn't step up to the challenge.

I enjoy the college game as much as the NBA game, possibly even more at tourney time. The one and done format of the tourney really gives each game that sence of desperation that's lacking in the NBA playoffs.

Milkman,
Nah. Not me. College ball is too (whats the word) small time, for me. Even though I'm in college and enjoy going to a game. Its too rah rah, for me.

I'm not against basketball - I love March Madness as much of the next guy - but the NBA just doesn't hold the same interest for me that the college game does. I'd much rather watch a good hockey game now than an NBA game, even though the Red Wings lost and my interest in the NHL playoffs waned because of it. And neither hold a torch to football, IMHO, both college and pro. ;)

I'll say this about college hoops. The NIT is the useless most tournament in all of sports. The winner gets to proclaim themselves #65! Yeah Man!
I think it would be more interesting if the teams were involved were the worst teams, loser advances, and the team that loses the final game gets to proclaim themselves "The Chumps! :D

Kyle and Milkman,
I'll, also, have to say that football is my favorite sport, and, IMO, nothing compares to that. I love the Chiefs a billion times more than the Lakers. Although I wish the Chiefs had as much success, championship wise, as the Lakers. CG wishes the Chiefs would hurry up and get on the ball before I die

kyle,
Stick around until 2001-02 NBA season as they have legalized the zone defense. What does that tell you about the college game when all it has is March Madness? And what is the point in watching Choker State get clobbered by 55 against the corporate teams of Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, et al? What is killing both games is the underclassmen coming out early. College is no longer any fun as anything close to a great player is gone by his sophmore year. A team to keep your eye on (especially since they got the #2 pick) is the LA Clippers. They have an incredibly young nucleus and perform like college players with their enthusiasm. Alvin Gentry could be coach of the year in 2001. This is NO joke....

I wouldn't believe everything said in Shaq's book. Many of the things he said in the book have already been admitted false. He said a lot of it to attract attention and to sell books. David Robinson is one of the good guys in the league. He does a lot of things off the basketball court in the community. He's one player who hasn't tattooed his whole body, or who has a ridiculous haircut. He isn't a player that draws attention to himself, he just plays the game and is a team guy.
On another note, pretty interesting that the Wizards get the first pick, huh? I am one who doesn't think MJ will make a comeback, however I can't say for sure nor can I say the same about Barkley. But, just imagine the Wizards with MJ, Barkley and the #1 pick in the draft. Last edited by Awesome KC guy; 05-21-2001 at 04:01 AM.. |
