Grades for players.

Would y'all give grades to the players that you observed? I was battling Snakes on a Plane, so I only got to see part of the second quarter and part of the third quarter at the airport.

In the little bit I saw, I was noticing an offensive line that was not giving Trent any time, and I saw #95 (Edwards?) jogging toward the play instead of running a couple of time. And I didn't see much at all of Larry Johnson. He never got the ball while I was watching.

So we can blame you for the period of time that the Chiefs forgot how to play football.

Dante - D
I have to wonder if Dante is still the answer on special teams. His fumble on that punt return was a real momentum shifter in the game. Had he fielded that punt, I think we win the game. We fell apart after that.

Green - A+
He's got more heart than all the rest of the team put together.

TG - B
He seemed to really step up at the end of the game. Wished he'd done so sooner.

LJ - B+
The only knock I saw on him was the fumble.

Allen - A-
Forced fumble and sack, not too much wrong for him, would have liked to see him knock Palmer around a bit more though.

O-Line D- (Across the board)
Had they played better, Green wouldn't have had to run in the first place.

D against Cinnci huddling - B
They actually did pretty good when they had time to get stuff going.

D against Cinnci in the no-huddle - F
Our D isn't ready for pressured play.

Oh, and Hicks - A+
He helped the team out more than I have ever seen today - sitting on the bench and NOT in the game.

I give Special teams an F, badly missed field goal, bad punt, fumbled punt. Special teams have killed us for years.

I give Herm ann F, this team was not prepared.

Gun-F-his schemes just don't work, he tips the blitz every time.

Law: D...could you give a little more cushion next time? Why don't we just line up Bartee?

Gonzo: A...Thanks for letting us hear the lame Arrowhead version of Gary Glitter's song.

LJ: A-...Who knew he would finish with more receiving yards than rushing? There was a point where it seemed like dump offs to LJ were our only hope.

Dante: F...his fumble basically let the air out of the stadium. We pulled it together and were glad to see us hold them to a field goal, but that was the time to make a play, not drop the ball.

O-line: F...they were all bad. Jordan Black will get all the bad PR, but they all stunk it up. Something isn't right about this crew.

That's all I have the energy for.

No way Trent's play was an A. His effort was an A++. He has never shown the ability to make a quick read. The reason he has been so effective in this system is that we have had one of the best olines of all time protecting him. Think back to times when Trent was forced to make quick reads; the results usally are not very pretty. I think the luxury of having time to make multiple checks to find the open receiver is also the reason we have not needed a real #1 receiver.

This is the knock on Ty that he no longer has the speed to cover #1 receivers. It looked like that was the case today.

I know I'm probably going to take a lot of flack for this because it will be blamed on the offensive line, but I thought Trent held on to the ball too long during that 3-and-out series after the Bengals scored their first touchdown and Trent then went and got sacked twice. Certainly, the OLine could have done a better job, but he had to get rid of it quicker than that.

I do agree with that in part. I also think that Solari at that point had taken the game out of LJ's hands by not using LJ. They seemed to reach one point in the game where everything HAD to be a pass.

On the one fake draw play that Trent got hammered on, LJ busted through the line and would have had a first down had he actually gotten the ball.

It sucks to see Law giving a big cushion on 3rd down, but overall the scheme seemed to work. Cinci's WRs had a combined 9 catches for 97 yards with no TDs. Chad had 5 catches for 48 yards.

O-line: B- in run blocking, F in pass blocking

LJ: solid A

WRs: C-. Good job on forcing the interception Parker.

Gonzo: A. What a surprise! This Gonzalez is actually a pretty good target in the redzone. I wish we would have known that last season.

Trent: A-. The interception wasn't his fault.

Cruz: B. Nobody has really mentioned him, but he made some pretty good blocks out of the I.

Huard: D for a starting QB, B for a backup QB who hasn't played in six years. He was actually pretty good when he wasn't getting sacked or fumbling the ball.

Jared Allen: A: Played his heart out. He was all over the place all game making plays against the run and pass. His sack and forced fumble gave us a chance to get right back in the game, but our offense choked it away.

Hali: B+: He didn't get quite as much pressure as JA, but he was also all over the place. He drew a holding penalty on a play where he blew past Willie Anderson. He probably would have gotten a sack on that play. He also had at least three stuffs for no gain. I think JA and Hali had a combined 14 tackles.

interior D-line: B- (at least relatively to what we are used to seeing). Our DTs were stout against the run most of the time, and Reed is actually a playmaker. We also got a pretty decent push. As a whole our d-line got pretty good pressure considering who we were playing. We weren't killing Palmer, but we forced several throws. We also made it so Palmer just couldn't sit in the pocket for 10 seconds until a receiver came open.

Kawika Mitchell: B. He made that nice deflection on 3rd down early in the game, but then he got knocked out of the hole on Rudi's long run. I was going to give him a B- before I remembered he had that deflection. That was a nice play.

DJ: A-. He made plays against the run all game, and he finished with a team high eight tackles. The reason this isn't a flat A is because he didn't force any turnovers or get any sacks. He did recover JA's FF.

Bell: D. Wait, he actually played? He made a nice play on Chad Johnson early in the game, and then he disappeared. When is Fox going to get a chance?

Knight: C-. Maybe my bias is effecting my judgement of Knight's performance, but I don't remember him really doing anything either. I do know that the coaches weren't very happy with him either. Sometime early in the second half Jarrad Page came in and replaced him.

Wesley: C+. I can't point out any gigantic mistakes Wesley made, but I can't think of any big plays he made either. Still, I would rather have a solid if unspectacular Wesley over the boom or bust Wesley of last season. I do wish him or Knight could have filled on the two big runs Cinci had for TDs.

Jarrad Page: B-. I would have gave the rook a C+, but he had the carry for the first down on the fake punt. He seemed to be a lot faster then our other safeties when he was out there, but he only recorded two tackles.

Ty Law: B. He played loose coverage, but it didn't really hurt us all that bad in this case. CJ had less then 50 yards receiving and no TDs. The Bengals WRs as a whole had less then 100 yards receiving. He also had the tackle on Chris Henry for -5 yards which helped us hold them to a FG after Dante muffed a punt.

Surtain: B. I think Surtain actually had a better day in coverage then Ty, but I downgraded him a bit because of his two dropped interceptions.

You're an idiot if you think Ty Law CHOOSES to play 15 yards off a receiver.
